Very interesting story. I started my MSc thesis on palynology, but for reasons unrelated to pollen, I changed the subject of the thesis after a few months. (I could not get comfortable working with HF)

The OP does not seem to be testifying against a company for under declaring the amount of stationary they have though, unless that involves major law firms, and breaks state and federal law.

It is not necessarily about using trigonometry, but rather a basic level of maths or English that is missing, with functional innumeracy and illiteracy. It is multi-factoral for sure, but there is also a culture of being fine with saying &q

I have come to accept that my way of working is in bursts. Whether this is at a 9-5 admin job (work intensely 9-10:30, slow down until 12, work intensely 1-2:30, take it easy the rest of the day unless something comes up), or working on pro

Other countries put people in prison to protect the public, not to make them suffer. Many countries dropped the victorian method (lock people up and throw away the key, and lock them up in fairly nasty conditions)of prisons when they figur

Well, for me it is more about recognising fallacies. How often do we hear variations on the Black Swan fallacy, and how often do people fall for it,and repeat it in discussions? Your regular bloke down the pub finds Schroedinger and chaos t

The difference is in how you respond to the person. So, with the person who has read an article, or heard a soundbite and repeated it incorrectly, consider how you would respond to it in person if they were in front of you. Gratuitous negat

I run with "Would I say this to their face using these exact words if I was introduced to them in a room" If not, then perhaps I should rephrase it, to convey the same message, but perhaps without it being a personal attack.

In Denmark I get around €750 per month from the government as a student, and I can take another €400 euro or so as a very low interest loan if I want. I can also apply for assistance with rent as needed.

Some of the tech press is covering it. Gizmodo, slashdot, the register. WashPo also had a blog, as did a few other non-tech sites. The reason they don't show as Github specifically is because it is reported as "Anti-censorship gro

Astroturfing is usually fairly easy to spot. Of course, it can be difficult to tell those who are a bit fanatical about an issue from astroturfers, usually because the fanatical people are sourcing from blogs etc written by the astroturfers

They did not vandalize a church. They stood on the altar. Afaik, they caused no physical damage to the church, nor defaced anything. I don't think people get multi-year sentences for saying bad words in a church ;)

Definitely not. Unless the usual method of taking LSD is via pill form. But I hear MDMA does not induce hours of hallucinations either, so perhaps LSD does come in pill form with logos on it.
