Online purchases would be great, now how about an ISP that sells me the bandwidth to do it at a reasonable price that isn't Comcast/Cox/Time Warner/At&t? There's a reason I buy physical media.

I think you raise a very interesting point. When you read stories about trading, often people bring up the question, "What value does it provide to society?" Much of the commentary I read wants to apply that judgement to trading, but nowher

This is a totally brilliant way of illustrating the cost of social media. It's interesting how many people are calling this blackmail and completely missing the point.

Back in the early 2000s it seemed like a lot people were using kazlib: http://www.kylheku.com/~kaz/kazlib.html

What do you mean by that? Scala supports closures, currying, immutable data structures, recursion. I'm failing to see how these concepts are less obvious in Scala.

You should look at Scalatra before dismissing scala web frameworks. It is very simple and easy to use.

Check which ISPs offer service there. For example, if you intended to get DSL, the new apartment might be far from the central office or you might only get a service that the apartment management has an agreement with.

Do you have an example of code that will throw an unexpected ClassCastException?

I don't agree with that approach. It sounds nice for a sysadmin, but as a programmer I don't want to have to wait for you or the distributor to approve and package the libs I need to work with.

Don't forget last year around this time when Sony's PSN was cracked into and it turned out they were storing the cleartext passwords.

I had an idea like this a while back, but as far as I know there is no shell support for it. Basically, you would install decorators in your current shell instance. The decorator could act as a filter for all stream io. Then you would not n

Youtube denied the ability for UMG to pull content that UMG does not own, but Youtube provided no evidence of why that ability doesn't exist. UMG cited portions of a particular contract, which makes me wonder if the contract has ambiguities

How does Scala contribute to this problem? It does not have checked exceptions.

If you didn't have some leverage over the company, it would not be wrong. If you were, say, lead engineer, and knew that training a replacement would take quite some time, then it would be wrong.

For me, Scala has a couple killer projects going for it that should greatly help adoption: ensime and simple-build-tool. An IDE and a build environment that doesn't suck. When you're just starting out with a language, being able to get goin
