TBH The best advice I can give is to move closer to Melbourne. I don't care for it here, but there's not a lot of dev jobs back home in QLD, either.

Yup, I have one too. It's timeless, does not resemble any sort of contemporary physical artifact of technology, like a bar code or a circuit board, and to anybody who doesn't recognise it, it's just a small decorative piece.

Scour the archives of the VPRI mailing list, it's where I get most of my scans of old Smalltalk stuff (unsurprisingly). Any web search that's even remotely Smalltalk-related quickly ends in circular links and/or 404s.

No, no it can't. I'm glad that it works for you, but for me the part of my brain that focuses on voices turns off the part of my brain that turns thoughts into code. It doesn't matter if they're talking to me or not, but

No, they're mostly designed to keep a few Italian men in white hats in charge of 16th century Europe. We should probably take a long hard look at them.

The rest of the gun doesn't matter. A two inch barrel leaves almost no space for the propellant to expand before it escapes containment (and all its remaining energy is wasted), and no chance for any useful rifling.

A gun with a 2 inch-long barrel is going to be pretty useless at not much more than a dozen feet. Good for mugging somebody I guess, but not self-defense or fighting the next revolution. And you can mug somebody with a knife.

We have a bunch of old rotary race cars in the showroom at the 9-5, you wouldn't believe how much noise and oil they put out the back whenever they need to be moved around :) wank-wank-wank-wank-BANG!-wank-wank-wank-wank

FWIW (anecdote warning) I have the Galaxy Note Tab 2014. The Stylus works great, but I only use it for drawing, and definitely wish I'd just waited for the Surface 3.

Yes. And the efficiency of "food calories - shit calories" varies wildly between individuals and across time for individuals. The number of calories you see in a food database is calculated based on how well a few macronutrients

It's my understanding you need to be a multi-million-dollar company to even get NVidia to answer your calls to talk about showing you the NDA you need to sign to get access to register-level Tegra programming docs? If I'm wrong I&

Personally, I love the idea of low-spec 86 chips being available at rock-bottom prices. It's an architecture that while far from perfect is well known, and most of us here have a boatload of experience with it I'll wager. I'd

I think the descriptions of endianness are off. Endianness doesn't affect the order of an array of bytes at all, only the rules for converting longer words to/from a byte array. [0xDE, 0xAD, 0xBE, 0xEF] will always be the same arr

Nobody seems to mention that these guys aren't patent trolls . It might be a stupid patent, you might think patent law needs an overhaul (I'm with you on both counts) but PA are the people who "invented" the patented ma

It's a crying shame that for the people in charge of purchasing, the most important criteria seems to be keeping the poor saps using the devices from doing what they want with them.

It's true, with the one caveat that you actually have to want to learn to like it, you can't be forced into it by your parents once you're older than 2 or 3. The social difficulty of not eating potatoes is what set me down that path initi
