You get a warning popup and the application is blocked from running if it is not signed by an Apple Developer Account ($100/yr) and countersigned (i.e., notarized) by Apple. This is separate from the 30% App Store commission.

I had not heard of keypaths before. They seem to provide functionality similar to lenses in Haskell.

I suspect they are thinking of TOTP-based schemes for 2fa, not hardware-based 2fa. With TOTP-based 2fa, you can store the seeds in your password manager, which ends putting them next to the passwords themselves, all in one place.

No, you understand. Indeed, by importing Python code, you execute Python code, and so there could be ab execution path for malicious code to run. FYI, pylint does something similar for native-code extension modules (unless this changed in t

'print' is a global function that can be overridden by user code. The most obvious way to do this would be to define a new function named 'print', but it could also be overridden through less direct means, like from an &

In Python semantics, indeed, 'print' does need to be looked up each time!

Strings and f-strings are not separate types in Python, sadly.

I saw this too from a Satechi hub! When connected to power and Ethernet but not a computer, it would crash my home network switch, requiring a power cycle on that. Maddening.

I went through 2 CalDigit TS3 docks previously, and returned both of them. They had a good number of ports and seemed reliable for the few weeks I had them. But both of them had audibly noisy capacitors, resulting in a tinnitus-like 16KHz t

I've also observed this on duckduckgo, perhaps to a slightly lesser extent. Strange: they either both tweaked their algorithms around the same time, or maybe SEO spam suddenly got a lot better.

I've noticed in the past 2-3 months that results from StackOverflow, Wikipedia, and official programming language documentation sites seem to have been abruptly downranked. They used to typically be in the top 3 results for me for appr

Nassim Nicholas Taleb put out a video explanation of how Simpson's Paradox applies here, which is more direct and less tongue-in-cheek compared to the post: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=XVRfBhy5vGI

Same! On 2 Macs! My external keyboard and mouse stopped working. I thought I was having some hardware or USB issues. Are you using Logitech keyboard and mouse, by any chance?

LLVM is good but highly idiosyncratic. A lot of complexity shows up there from doing things like building and using a custom RTTI mechanism.

Yes, mypy is terrific, and has changed the way I write Python programs. Taking this gradual typing tool a step further, you can run your tests with the typeguard plugin for pytest, which will dynamically check the types of most values, poin

I’ll tell you a little secret: when compiling or running multi-minute test suites, or sometimes even just being in a videochat, the fans rev up, and sound like a weak hair dryer, even on the 16” MBP (which is what I currently use). The ther
