Hey I commented on a different reply of yours before realising you're the only commenter pushing back on this rubbish, so I just want to say that I appreciate you taking the time to do this. Leaving ideas like this unchallenged just le

Thank you for politely explaining what I am too filled with incoherent rage to do myself. The sexism of HN is astounding sometimes, here we have men politely debating whether women deserve rights. Everytime women are brought up on HN I am o

Hi poster here, note that ars technica has it's own comment section and it may be worth reading the comments as well as the article. I think we're going to be seeing TPM requirements in a lot more things soon. Almost certainly DRM

Oh! Do you mean how many actual nanometers a transistor made on a '2nm' process is?

Considering the fact that most data heavy servers are llnux, that would be a pretty clever way of staying true to their word.

50% storage efficiency is a tough pill to swallow, but drives are pretty big and the ability to expand as you go means it can be cheaper in the long run to just buy the larger, new drives coming out than pay upfront for a bunch of drives in

If you're willing to use mirror vdevs, expansions can be done two drives at a time. Also, depending on how often your data changes, you should check out snapraid. Doesn't have all the features of ZFS but its perfect for stuff that

Could you please stop with the false niceness? If you want to be sarcastic you can just do that. Deception squicks me out.

Open plugins are meaningless when the platform itslelf isn't open. There are also lots of markdown centric note software so its not too much of a draw for obsidian. Personally I'd never use a proprietary note app, having to switch

I don't like electron bloat but notes are something I absolutely need to be on every platform for portability, I'm willing to accept the trade off. To be fair to electron, the software I use (trilium), runs like a dream.

It would be trivially easy to fake a free github account as being from the US. Not hiding the fact that they're Chinese makes me trust them more.

It's also a blatant lie, the system is broken and the government allows social services to be so bad because it wants to spend as little money on them as possible.

They used to refer to the smallest features, but they haven't had any real meaning for a long time now. The names of the nodes don't correspond to any physical feature of the actual transistor anymore.

If TMSC fabs go down, the world silicon foundry output would drop by a significant chunk. That could have an effect but the majority of the worlds silicon use is in less advanced nodes which many companies produce, it would slow down the st

Plus, trilium has a self-hostable sync/web server. The data is stored in a database but you have the option to export as markdown/HTML. Only issue is that its maintained privately by one person. I take this as a plus but it does m

But apple charges for storage space? Surely people needing more storage is a huge plus for Apple. Maybe they had worries about scaling storage capacity? A company like Aple could certainly figure it out though so that seems unlikely
