One thing I notice about the C program is that it uses the double-precision exp(), fabs(), and sqrt(), rather than the "q"-suffixed variants from quadmath.h, a feature that appears to be specific to GCC. However, changing the pro

The description of SmartSummon about halfway through the talk is interesting. One of the views looks like SLAM using a particle filter, but Andrej seems to say that it's done entirely within a neural net.

I've read several articles and discussions about the topic, but I'm still a little fuzzy on where biometrics fit in the context of authentication: username, password, just another factor? What is the role of the fingerprint in th

I've seen this TUI term come up a few times on Hacker News. The term I've heard at two companies that had extensive terminal interfaces with menus and screens is CHUI (rhymes with "chewy"). It's funny, though: the

On the contrary, I'd say that competition has been good for all involved. For such a maligned language that was born in a little over a week, JavaScript is better and faster than it has any right to be. The amount of resources that ha

It strikes me that the example is a bit contrived: why is howmany decremented unconditionally? The first loop populates out with howmany numbers. The second loop may set none (other than the ignored value that you point out). I suppose y

From a QA perspective, I feel like you buried the lede on this Loom tool. Benchmarks are nice, but confidence is an elusive thing when it comes to non-trivial concurrency. I'll be spending some time on the CDSChecker and dynamic parti

This is a very convenient library for getting started. It even has a mode that made it possible for me to parse numbers into a decimal class. I would point out that its convenience in large part depends on extensive use of cast operators,

There are trade offs other than just cost. Want a long, thin, flexible cable to charge your laptop? Then you prioritize power delivery at the expense of data speed. If you insist on 40 Gbps capability, something else has to give.

I just ran into a similar booby trap the other day: whereas BigDecimal::BigDecimal(double) does the full decimal expansion, BigDecimal::valueOf(double) goes through Double::toString(double), which is generally a lot fewer digits.
