I think OP is looking at backward compatibility with respect to libraries. For example today I make a library that does a lot of computations in `const` functions and it works with rust 1.72.0; tomorrow I slightly change function by splitti

It depends on the workload. If you have some tight loop that's heavy on computations and memory accesses then the borrow checker will allow you get some huge wins by removing allocations and improving memory locality. If instesd you&#x

What makes you think that sum types make compile time skyrocket?

Compared to those other languages, Java has no mechanism to enfore the use of concurrent data structures, it's entirely up to the programmer to use them.

AFAIK the focus right now is on supporting `async` in traits, which required a bunch of language features seemingly unrelated like Generic Associated Types, which were released in rust 1.65, and Type Alias Impl Trait, which is still WIP due

I think OP was referring to the fact that implementation of moves can sometime (more often than desired I would add) do memcpys. e.g. if you have a struct of ~100 bytes and you move it, it will probably emit a memcpy to write it in the rece

Note that in this particular case you can still use alternative browsers that come with updated root CAs.

Most modern hardware make use of registers and multiple layers of caches and you need ton of UB to justify the compiler making use of them.

Do you mean at the type level or also for the operational semantics? In the latter case it's undecidable. Also, you mentioned matrices in the previous comment, but multiplication between matrices is not commutative.

I'm not familiar with linear types but as far as I can see they're pretty much the same as rust's ownership rules. Is there something I'm missing?
