Most of the paper-writing-on-phones that I've seen is just a convenience thing. Google Docs/other cloud writing platforms make your documents available everywhere, and it turns out that there's a lot of down time where you ca

You aren't allowed to just read code and regurgitate it in order to claim it as your own. That is, just because you memorized this great new novel you read, it doesn't mean you can go and sit down and hammer it out and sell new co

One of the things that bugged me about this presentation (and, to a similar extent, with Oxide as a whole) is the assertion that the only way we can have safe and trustworthy systems is if each and every component is trustworthy. This is, o

Are there any good, free desktop hypervisor apps for ARM macOS at this point? I always used VirtualBox on Intel but they don't support ARM guests on ARM hosts so I've been stuck using qemu, which is not so great performance-wise.

The most recent hardware actually do support ARM hypervisor extensions so you can actually run raw linux on iOS hosts :) https://worthdoingbadly.com/hv/

I am terrified to think what AMD's predictor structure is if it's easier for them to do _this_ than it is to simply add privilege tags to their predictors. I don't personally buy this explanation anyways; trying to optimize r

fwiw, the passcode challenge is for decrypting your keychain. If you fail that, you lose your passwords and other E2E data, but for better or for worse, not that much stored stuff is E2E encrypted and so you don't lose too much. I don&

I wonder where the non-NSO offensive companies' products end up going. Like, NSO is absolutely not the only player in this game by a long shot (they're hardly the largest even) and yet they have dozens of Citizenlab pieces on th

Yeah, more or less! This closes some paths and opens brand new ones, like more of the former and less of the latter. For example, let's consider this code. void f(void) { obj *a; a = calloc(1, sizeof(a)); g(a);

I think they just worded that poorly. I suspect their suggestion is not that you run with the MMU _off_ (as doing so would trash your perf anyways since everything becomes uncacheable!) but rather that you don't need to context switch
