I don’t see the problem. Freedom of speech. If the images are distributed to defame someone, that should be addressed by law. But privately using a tool doesn’t seem problematic. You can write erotic fiction legally right? What’s the differ

It’s to avoid collecting data that would point to major climate change issues. Things like disruption of currents that circulate across oceans. It’s really a dishonest move. We already paid to have this network of sensors, and they’re suppo

The problem is having any kind of age based ban forces everyone, including adults, to verify their identity. And then you lose the ability to post anonymously.

But the world cannot use Mythos. Only some “trusted partners” of Anthropic can. Whatever that means. The rest are stuck with Fable, which will refuse to help find vulnerabilities in your own software.

We don't have the actual contracts publicly. So I bet it has terms that let the government do what it wants ultimately by naming exceptions. That way OpenAI can claim it has some controls in place while the military has the freedom it

That’s not what articles on it say. They say that a team of security researchers at Amazon were able to trivially jailbreak the model and it’s not as guardrailed as claimed. Articles say in particular the model was shown to be usable for id

Well when OpenAI did it most prominently, it was actually Dario Amodei who did it while working at OpenAI. Although you are correct that OpenAI has also pushed for safety regulations. I doubt Sam Altman is part of the effective altruism cul

To be clear, Anthropic was completely okay with their tech being used in war, including current conflicts. They just wanted a human making some decisions. The military didn’t want a vendor giving them restrictions on how to operate a tool,

Maybe what they hoped is what actually happens. The SEC gives wealthy people and companies a slap on the wrist typically. A fine that means nothing. Government agencies like the IRC or SEC mostly go after smaller players who are mostly less

How did they have such a large stake? Is this some sort of social club between the Amodei’s and SBF because they share the same ideology (effective altruism)? Did Anthropic get partially funded by stolen money as a result? If so, that’s jus

It’s longer than these 24 hours. Just 48 hours ago Dario Amodei wrote a long essay that argued for export controls on other parts of the AI supply chain. Anthropic has marketed Mythos as being too dangerous for months. Dario also has been f

Anthropic themselves have played up the dangers of Mythos, limited its release, etc. So if it can be jail broken then it specifically deserves controls, per Dario’s own manifestos. David Sacks - the “AI Czar” - also said the government aske

Doesn’t it still mean they have made better investment choices than the other big tech companies? I guess I don’t see why they missed a boat here. Also the models may be as much a commodity as compute.

Did they miss it or are they careful to over invest, especially too early? Maybe their early bets in Anthropic were sized correctly since they’re making more money than all the other big tech investors in frontier labs.

I don’t think we will know. On the one hand, labs hold back until they have something competitive enough to release. So if Fable isn’t around, it removes that pressure. On the other hand, the Chinese labs have been moving fast anyways and a
