So you have never shared a joke a work, got home and repeated the joke to friends or family? People like to have a laugh. Most people repeating the joke are not claiming credit for creating it. They found it funny and shared it so others co

Bit sad how someone trying to contribute to an open source project is shoved on hn with the sole intention to ridicule them without explanation.

This is the Microsoft way. Take Vista and Windows 7. With Vista they tried something new. In Windows 7 they fixed it. In 8 they tried something new... and the cycle continues. Personally I don't mind the start menu being fullscreen. Wh

Congrats in launching and getting your product to this stage. Unfortunately I do not find it too useful. I buy from a lot of places, Amazon represents perhaps 5% of what I buy so your product doesn't add much for me. Have you considere

I can confirm this. Recently got a complaint from a blind user about an inaccessible form element that was buried deep deep within our JavaScript web app. We learned a couple of things that day.

It is no better than their Amazon Instant Video. Their video offering is pretty terrible. Takes ages to move between menus. You cannot just continue from where you were previously. It doesn't skip the credits and offer the next episode

It doesn't matter what the engineer did. The fact that the car company had so few controls that a single engineer could approve something faulty then change the specs of it in future models without anyone noticing is worrying to say th

Where is the step forward? The drone requires a skilled pilot to fly it. The drone cannot knock on doors. It cannot navigate stair cases. The recipient is inconvenienced and must stand in an open place to receive the pizza.

We as web developers need to create websites that make money. Part of that is to create websites which are visible and indexable by search engines.. In the UK people have been naming their businesses AAA whatever to appear first in the yell

I find the write up for the United Kingdom interesting.. 1. Spying - indefensible.. 2. Terrorism laws to go after journalists - What does this have to do with the internet? I wonder what this was referencing. If it is stopping Greenwalds pa

Piracy will always have an inherent risk of getting caught. As a result piracy isn't free at all. It is potentially very very expensive. To do piracy properly you have to pay for a proxy so it isn't really free at all. I don'

Ignoring some of the obvious conversation points. As a developer I like posts like this and find them very useful. Information like this demonstrating ways to discover exploits should be more common knowledge. I feel currently attackers hav

I think the issue is down more to a lack of awareness than a lack of care. A while ago a site was hacked because they didn't upgrade rails which put out an urgent security update a few day's previously. This is sloppy. There is no

This is it, not sure how you could read this another way. When reading the article it hit me that this was a great bit of business from Microsoft. A million dollars isn't much for MS to pay to make this go away... and then only paying

Google have indexed the Internet. They have indexed public roads (Street View). Both things are pretty useful. Pretty cool. The issue now is they want to index people.. pretty creepy. This can be seen with Google+ and the various inflexible

PC sales are declining because more people are realising that they do not need one. They can do most things - surf web, consume content - more comfortably on a tablet which is a fraction of the cost of a decent computer. Your point also hol

I would be suprised if this is a revalation to many people. PHP itself has been pretty solid for a while. PHP had a bad wrap for a good reason. It deserves it. Looking past the various naming inconsistencies etc, `register_globals` was a te

How can you defend someone who repeatedly vandalises a public space just so he can prance around a cell and say how horrible it is? It is easy enough to find people who have had these experience and document them. I am sure the math could b

A couple of days ago commenter on HN said they had pulled their savings from the bank and dumped it into bitcoins. It will probably recover but betting on bitcoins is akin to taking one hell of a ride by the looks of things.

Why not delete an account without removing the content? Basically disassociate the comment from the creator. This would give people back some control. I don't see why comments by [deleted] would damage the site or flow of comments.
