It makes sense for their intended use: Google wants googlers and high school students to not use Windows for any reason, and only use chromebooks. Stadia was a way for people with a chromebook to play Windows games.

I think it is pretty standard usage for ETL tools. You are not inserting a few dozen records, you are inserting a several thousand records each query. In fact, sometimes insert speed is measured in MB per second, not records per second.

Avocados require huge amounts of water for their cultivation, and here they end being fed to pigs. We should have better economic models that don't destroy the environment as just 'another externality'.

Technological post-modernism. Everything is subjective according to some confidence interval.

I agree with you in the most general sense. Someone's "accurate history" is just noise to everyone else. Squash and cherry-pick your commits to a public repository, people. Now, multiple people working in parallel is somethin

Many times it's the other way around. Obviate has several cognates in romance languages, so it is straightforward. Now, the phrasal verbs that are so obvious to a native speaker, these are the real head-scratchers. Or street slang. It

I agree with the sentiment, but in some cases it is not dumbing down but making it clearer. For me, the gold standard of this is Carl Sagan writings. Beautiful ideas, explained in the clearest language possible.

It's enough memory for most applications that are not Electron. Not to say that it should not have more, far from it. But the Electron framework is so wasteful, compared with basically all the alternatives. I wish the framework develop

Parent comment is way too dogmatic for my taste. It even mentions a mythological entity as an appeal to authority. In my opinion, mathematicians always choose the notation that's more convenient for them, at the moment, for a particula

It's an auction price. I am paying half than normal cost in average. The 'high' price was set up in case the instances were being killed because I was outbid by other AWS users. But the spot price has never been that high. Th

Any relationship with Godaddy sounds dirty. They are basically imposing the worst registrar ever on customers, for this particular scenario.

Your opinion sounds too one-sided to me. That complete disregard for performance is what gave us the endless Electron clients eating CPU/RAM just to do basic chat and music playing stuff. If the code is written with care for both thing

Cost optimization. This only needs to run when there are pending events, not 24/7. Also: this setup works perfectly fine with Intel instances.

Avianca Flight 203, the one Pablo Escobar blows up in the TV show Narcos, was probably an engine failure. https://reportajes.elespectador.com/avianca-203/?outputType=... As usual the official story and some details don

Yes, they are spot instances in an ASG. Still, the ASG group page doesn't show why are they killed. And I put a very high price limit (5 USD per hour) which is over 50 times what it actually costs per hour.

I have a process in AWS that can run on ARM or AMD64 machines. It runs in AMD64 machines because, for some reason, the Graviton instances are killed without warning by AWS. So yeah, great performance, as long as you don't actually need

Well, dealing with graph algorithms, none of them are obvious from the representation. Which is usually a matrix. In fact, Gauss Jordan is also not obvious, just seeing a matrix.

My opinion is that you can write code that's easy to understand, and it is also good for the computer to run. One thing is not in contradiction with the other. It could lower the reusability of the code, by not having many abstractions

I would not trust your gut feeling. If anything Rust has a clear boundary, and that's useful for all kinds of static analysis. And I say this as a fan of D lang. I don't really see any advantage of Rust over D except popularity.

The total truth is they didn't prove anything. Dark chocolate could still be a great weight loss product, and this "study" has tarnished that line of research.

Bitter chocolate is awesome. I consume it regularly, Latino-american style. This is, brewing it in water, adding a touch of milk. I have done this for about 15 years. Before that, it had sugar. I have drank chocolate all my life. Delicious.

Not really. The reason Steam exists and is as strong as it is, is because every other game developer abandoned PC gaming and went to the consoles, for an entire decade. Including Microsoft. People not only hated Steam, they hated PC gaming.
