That's the case in Australia too although the quality of the food varies.

Not sure where you people are getting these multi decade toasters, I need to replace mine every 5-10 years. Obviously not the worst case of e-waste either way but 1 or 2 seems like a severe underestimate but that could just be my own experi

This came from the less competent conservative government to be fair, although the current one is still very flawed.

Very fair feedback. I'll do so once I'm at a machine!

Not to be a stickler, but the only fair benchmark would be to select the most recent stable version of each. Doing so is fairly easy with docker I would think, if you don't wish to modify your system.

I mean, I'm no fan of Golang (I actually kinda hate it), but this is easily solved with a blank identifier (underscore `_`) or by commenting the line. Both of which makes it blindingly obvious when doing code review. Golang falls in th

How often have they explicitly committed to support something for that long? Not disagreeing just curious. I think the main thing is whether or not they continue the product line. As long as they keep releasing Chromebooks they'll want

Dune very much commented on the contemporarybproblems of its day. A big theme was around the scramble for Africa which, while over, was still affecting the continent in various ways as decolonisation continued. I agree that the extent of th

Sorry but this is such a bad take. Many of the bigger banks and financial institutions have very mature and well architected tech stacks, as do many newer fintechs. They have the funding to hire some of the best engineers, and they do. Bein

Google and Apple already have a huge amount of info on me that is almost certainly being shared with the US government. What's the diff between that and TikTok sharing my info with China?

It's fine if you only have a few separate concerns to separate (similarly you can also use multiple browser profiles) but it's not really scalable if you want to separate 10s of sites, clients, etc.

I often have to remind people here that not everyone in the world is a software developer. Yahoo may have less of its markets but the markets it's in are substantially larger.

No it's the opposite, it's exactly what you should do to exercise your public API. If your API isn't good enough for you it isn't good enough for your external integrators.

Payments are hard, it's no coincidence that only a handful of tech companies do it well despite it being one of the more lucrative areas to do business in. Makes sense for Amazon to work with a market leader in this case rather than sp

I wouldn't say that. At least, I haven't talked to many FB employees and yet bootcamp was used for onboarding at two largish tech companies I worked at.

Not sure how the vote was conducted, but if it was first past the post then it's a shame. Because I'm sure some of the folks who voted for other options would have preferred option 6.

I'd argue the invalid certificate would only get the middle segment of semi-tech literate but security illiterate people. So maybe a lot of people on this site . The average user, based on my observations, tends to take these warnings

In the web development world CORS is as common an acronym as REST or TCP. I sympathise with the endless need to look up acronyms but in my view anyone involved enough with web to need the above advice would (or should) know the acronym. I d

Oh yeah, DNS can be very painful. Definitely been burnt in the past. I generally lower the TTL to 5 minutes a day or so ahead of making any changes just to reduce risk, but DNS is even worse given that not everyone even respects TTL.

Very good and important advice, would advise caution when implementing this though - consider a shorter period when you make changes to CORS headers so that if you make a mistake you don't accidentally cut off your frontend for 24 hrs.

Not true at all. DC is still available for the next decade. It's just not at a price that smaller sized customers can afford to pay, so your point does apply to that group.

I don't have much context but I assume given it only affects a small subset of customers, they can't restore from a cold backup. Since the unaffected customers would then experience data loss.

The articles I read seem to imply this is less about the outage and more about the current growth numbers being unable to meet the medium term targets that have been painted, and the fact that the P/E ratio is very high.

I love trains but building a train network is expensive, adding a few signs to restrict traffic would be a lot cheaper than laying hundreds of kms of rail.
