What is wrong with cap and trade? I don't have a strong understanding of the proposed law but it stands to reason that the free market would be able to find the most efficient method of reducing emissions.

It makes sense why they would do it. It let's them get response from the community and use that feedback to address concerns and hype the positives for the official announcement. It is just like the open betas that video games have been doi

Well it seems like the main concerns are the fact that nobody got JoCo's approval before moving forward and there does not seem to be any attribution. I don't entirely agree with the outrage but the fact that this is done by Fox who are rea

I think we should get cheap internet to everyone. I really thought the plan to use television white space[0] was interesting. Funneling money into something like Google Fiber would also be amazing. Broadband, like the postal and telephone s

Well from my understanding the 4 months is not what he would get for sure, that is just what the prosecutor would tell the judge to do. He could still get anywhere between 4 months and 50 years (the maximum after the prosecutor added even m

I would be interested to see data from the Humble Bundles on pay-what-you-want pricing. They seem to have done things over the past few sales that have resulted in higher averages.

What about a Neuromancer style brain upload where a computer takes a series of very long incredibly detailed interviews and brain analysis and constructs a simulation of that person? Sure it might not be exact but, as you said, it really ca

Oh, never mind. I have seen some libraries that have very low usage rates of books compared to computers and I would not mourn a scaling down of their books on hand as long as they kept a strong catalog.

I didn't make that comment so I can't answer for it. What I can say is that the area that the term covers is arbitrary and that you can discuss one facet of it without involving the others. There is no reason that trademarks need to be disc

I said that information is intangible, not that all intangible things are information. You are being absurd. A physical book and a digital representation of the information are completely different. The only thing that they have in common i

What you are saying makes no sense. I am not talking about manufacturing or brands or trademarks. I am talking about the data. Trademarks are already public, you don't have to pay to look at a logo. How is my argument even tangentially rela

Are you saying that selling plastic by the sword is better for society than a strong public domain? Or do you just think that a system where content can be produced without artificial scarcity is idealistic? I guess what I am asking is this

Well most banks give out loans without the consent of their members on a per loan basis. Taxes are similar, people agree to pay taxes but they don't have a say on a per loan basis of what is done with those funds.
