I was referring to your "500m trees" which would be over 3x taller than the tallest trees ever seen.

There are no pumps in a tree, in series or not. There’s nothing between the roots and leaves that actively drives water upward in any way. The xylem is literally dead tissue.

There are obviously other factors limiting tree growth, like compressive strength.

It can, but using a technology just to work around problems caused (or at least exacerbated) by the very same technology is obviously not something we should be doing or encouraging.

Trivia: Finnish is one of the European languages with retained, original (rather than Latin-borrowed) names for months. July is heinäkuu , literally "hay moon" or "hay month", which demonstrates the prevalence and impor

Real-time strategy AI is absolutely AI in the standard Russell & Norvig sense of AI. There's nothing about the computer science concept of AI that implies "super-smart" or always trying to outsmart the player (rather than

Oh but you see, own OSS projects are not worth much unless they got stars . Anyone can now fill their GitHub space with a hundred vibecoded projects in an afternoon, it's worth nothing unless it comes with social proof.

Being able to donate tokens won't help with that, unless the project maintainers also want the project to do xyz.

I guess GP is hinting that referring to TLoS as a TV series is a bit similar to, say, referring to LotR as a movie series (when discussing the basic premise shared by the original and the adaptation).

All problems are social problems in that sense, but that's not what I meant. And if fiat money (as in, a type of social contract) is a technology, then anything is a technology.

Technological solutions to social problems only tend to work when the problems are of the type "I wish it were easier to rid people of their money".

It tells a lot about the state of software "engineering" if it's difficult to convince people of the value of the very best ones (the "lazy and smart officers" in the old story). No good engineer can ever be in love

To be honest I'm not sure if many C-suite execs have a good idea of what "thinking" looks like inside in the first place, in the sense of focused mental activity aimed at solving of a hard logical or technical problem.

Somehow "protecting companies" by keeping basic research, done openly at a university lab, from being "stolen"? What? It's like saying it's painful that the Web was invented in Europe and opened for everybody r
