I need some kind of controller I can mount the iPhone to -- maybe better speakers, a d-pad, a couple buttons, extended battery pack. I would pay for that (maybe you could even bundle some games with it!).

Why bother with the acronyms? Just look at the problem and figure out a beautiful solution. It's a lot tougher than just picking a design philosophy, but the result justifies the mental effort.
