The Websocket connection did stop updating a few times when your site was getting the HN hug. You could push an updated list to Cloudflare KV every few seconds and have the front end poll it from there for cheap and near unlimited scalabili

Yeah, API arms race is definitely the next step. I’ll put up with reduced functionality or just stop using Reddit on mobile. Worst case scenario is just web scraping Reddit and serving up to 3rd party clients as read only.

My simplified understanding is that mainframes take vertical OLTP scaling AND system redundancy to the absolute extreme. In any other computer your small number of general purpose CPUs have to handle all the business / application logi

31. Hodes and Mostaque confirmed Dr. Waseem's 10% equity interest in written messages to each other. 33. Since Stability Al had cash flow issues and fell behind in paying its outside counsel, Mostaque told Dr. Waseem that Stability AI

The CVEs are for CentOS Stream 9, not the RHEL derived CentOS 7 or Rocky/Alma 8/9. If the RHEL derived distributions were patched but not Stream it would seem that IBM-RedHat's promises about CentOS Stream being just as good

It is still the case. This team went deep into benchmarking mobile chipset power efficiency, Exynos does not do well. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s0ukXDnWlTY

There are multiple IMAX screen types. The full size giant IMAX you'll find at theme parks and such, the medium size, and then a small watered down faux-IMAX that theaters can retrofit into existing facilities. Dolby Atmos competes with

Let’s say this did happen, and Netflix responded by moving all their EU traffic to 3rd party CDNs. What then? Would ISPs start going after Akamai and such for the same compensation? If the media URL is totally opaque (Akamai domain, encrypt

This is why I prefer to watch films on a Dolby Atmos or 2D laser IMAX screen. These outside bodies certify that projection and sound are built and operated to a quality specification. You can find them in your local market if you do some re

I think "custodians" in this case means the administrators of the chat system. It was within their power to preserve this data, and they did not do so.

Another vote for Startech here. I needed to find a USB hub that could drive 10-20 USB 1.1 devices at full USB 1.1 speed, Startech was one of the few manufacturers to build such a device AND provide the detailed specifications I needed to ve

Why does HN run such a low resource site on a single bare metal server (plus identical backup) in the first place? 2x E5-2637 v4 is not that much CPU power these days. An IaaS VM from the same vendor (M5 Hosting) would provide equivalent re

Except now you require 2 machines and internet access instead of just one machine. You could offload your VMs before too. Keeping them all local and working offline are still important capabilities.
