As a fellow Swiss living in San Francisco, one of the most depressing things is just how hard it is to find good healthy food in America, and find the delicious food I was used to. Mostly: good bread, saucisse au choux, müsli, good milk, ce

Certain airlines (e.g. Norwegian) do this. It's usually a more unpleasant experience because you can't use a jetway and have to use the stairs and be exposed to the outside elements. Jumbo jets also often have multiple jetways (e.

The USA is not a democracy, it's a representative republic. That's the fundamental difference which means that you can't simply go to the ballot box to fix something. You can go to the ballot box to support people who you bel

Sure. I think that's fine; as long as people aren't losing money on taxes or exercise price. Equity compensation should always be viewed with the appropriate grain of salt—it's an investment, and most likely won't pan ou

Don't forget state income tax. In California this tops out around 12% or so. State + federal adds up to over 50% total.

The US tax rate is hardly lower… if you live in San Francisco and are in the top bracket, you pay 50%+ tax rate if you don't make an effort to minimize (aka dodge) your exposure.

That's about double the minimum wage. I'm sure a lot of people live here on less than that. Sure, they're not paying downtown market prices for housing… but a rent-controlled unit in the sunset doesn't sound implausible.

This #PorteOuverte hashtag thing would be cool, if there weren’t a million people talking about how awesome the hashtag is, drowning out the ones actually offering shelter. I browsed through 20 pages of tweets with the hashtag, and only one

What makes this project incredible is how it is dug at the base of the mountain, instead of higher up. That makes it the deepest tunnel, dug under 2,500m of rock at its max. When you have almost two miles of mountain weighing down on you… p

That's just economics. Demand in the US for thanksgiving travel goes through the roof. Airlines don't magically have more planes to fly during the holiday (i.e. supply is fixed). The result: prices adjust upwards and force more pe

A preference is just a term on the investment. They could be mixed. It can get pretty complicated. Take this scenario: (A) Series A non-participating 5M, (B) Series B non-participating 10M, (C) Series C participating 10M, owns 25%. Founders

I don't think the difference between 1995 to 2005 and 2005 to 2015 is a factor of 10x. Looks pretty linear over the last 20 years. The big innovations of this decade is the smartphone and Uber. Last decade had WiFi, ubiquitous internet
