A much better response would have been: Re: Open Letter Thank you very much for taking the time to express your opinion. We want to let you know we're listening and very much appreciate feedback. Hang in there. - Mike & Jim

Disappointing to see RIM be so dismissive of a heartfelt and honest open letter by someone who (high level RIM employee or not) obviously cares a lot about RIM and took substancial amount of time to express his thoughts.

Another thing that rubs me the wrong way is that I'm not quite sure what these postings are… Are they ads? Kind of. Are they posts? Kind of. Are they sponsored / paid for? No idea. I can't comment on them. I can't even permalink to them. I

This is a brute force / dictionary attack. Only "bad" passwords have been cracked. My password isn't on the list—it's a randomly generated 17-char string of alphanumeric and mixed case character. Btw, you should all check out 1Password. Aut

Point well taken. I would've been happier with, say, the FBI being behind the unmasking.

I personally applaud the unmasking of the internet's anonymous. Maybe once they realize they're not truly anonymous, they'll stop with their appalling behavior. What they're doing exemplifies everything that is wrong with our sensationalist

You are wrong. Work-life balance is extremely important, and suggesting otherwise is dangerous. First of all, health and well-being should always be your primary concern, and forcing your employees to throw that off balance is close to crim

*.local is used by all Apple devices for Zeroconf (Bonjour.) Imagine your Mac's hostname is uranium, uranium.local will automatically resolve to the current IP of the laptop.

You have a point! I guess I'm bastardizing the definition of an ORM. What I mean by it was a library that automatically maps the data layer to objects in your application code, and (often) gives you tools to work with these objects. I wrote

The main problems with ORMs is that they're trying to work around non-object-oriented data stores. Layers of abstractions and ORMs in particular are generally good things—but they can't do magic when it comes to dealing with SQL. If you're

Speaking of concurrent programming and parallelism. If you're not into functional programming, check out Apple's Grand Central Dispatch[1] and Objective-C Blocks[2]. Unless you write your own Objective-C http server and run it on Mac OS X S

Oh god, I don't like the sound of that. I wonder how Apple's going to spin this to make this sound in any way acceptable, when and if this does get released. Note, though, that a patent does not mean the feature is coming. Most companies pa

It's funny, but as a pyramid scheme it kinda sucks. When the pyramid crumbles, everybody's left with a bunch of worthless bitcoins. At least in a ponzie scheme, the people at the top profit. A lot.

There's something very very wrong with the city of Oakland. I lived there for one year, before moving to SF and while everybody told me I should constantly be watching my back, I mostly ignored it and was fine. But after I moved to SF, I fo

Ever heard of premature optimization? Doing things like concatenating images into sprites and using css to display them is overkill for pretty much anything except Google's doodles. I also find it to be very inelegant. Best practices is one

I certainly hope that's not true. It'd be a deal-breaker for me. I don't want to play games with my wallet. I want it to be a simple, serious and functional tool for dealing with money. Some things should not be game-ified.
