You might also want to look into GitHub's Sundown library. It's an awesome library and being written in pure C, you can use it natively. The reason I wrote myself is that my use case was more markdown highlighting than markdown parsing .

My favorite new feature: you can finally search through your own gists! I use gists all day every day: it's where I dump and share pieces of reusable code. It's always been a huge pain to search for something you know you gisted, but can no

You might be interested in something I plan to open source at some point: a native Markdown lexing / parsing engine meant to be used to stylize markdown for Core Text / NSAttributedString. Here's the meat of it in a gist: https://gist.gith

I was a little disappointed by the explanation – I was expecting this to dive deep into how ANSI code came to be, and how they worked. Not just "hey they exist and are neat." You're probably better off reading the Wikipedia article: http

It's not a common use case, but I've had to do it. Luckily, it's fairly easy: int count_multibytes_encountered(char *text, unsigned long len) { int count = 0; for (int i = 0; i < len; i++) { if ((*(text

I think I'm the only person who likes headers. I'm not overly concerned with compilation times and big-o notation. Computers can compile things really fast nowadays. I'm more concerned with the developer usability benefits & drawbacks o

I think it comes down simply to: don't set out to make a startup. That's the wrong mind set. You shouldn't be creating a startup for the sake of creating a startup. You should be setting out to solve a problem, and somehow happen to turn th

Instead of operating this as a charity (doesn't scale), why not sell the debt back to the original lendees at face value. (Buy back your $15k loan for $500.) I guess that wouldn't be legal, though?

If your experience with Office sucks, just don't buy it. There is not justification for pirating. It's a free market, and Microsoft's monopoly is long gone. I haven't used Office in years and I've done just fine. The few time people send me

I'm the author of a Markdown text (prose) editor[1], and can attest to Jeff's statement that all Markdown's parsers suck. The official perl regex-based implementation is a joke. Sundown is great, but only works for cross-compilation to othe

Being rejected from YC is not necessarily the end of the world. I speak from experience, when my company first started out, we tried to get into YC S11, got the interview, but did not make it. We continued along bootstrapped for a while, an

Pure C is a fine choice, too. As is Objective-C. I'm pretty sure Objective-C will outperform Java and C# both. And there's no question that the best choice would be C, for its efficiency and its versatility.
