I'm surprised you recommend Amarok as a foobar2k user. Amarok is closer to iTunes than it is foobar2k. Linux users: look for Audacious or DeaDBeeF. They are the best Linux alternatives to foobar2k.

My only problem is that it feels a little too indoctrinating, but then I'm jaded by my personal experience with a developer who is ushering his kids into programming without giving them any career choice. But then I was forced into pia

Meh, I firmly believe mobile apps are the best passive income generators available today, and it's only going to get better. SEO and blogging is just a pain. If you want to go the blogging route, try to game Pinterest instead. A lot o

Not sure why this is downvoted, he's completely right. Too many start up product videos nowadays are directed with shots all over the place. I hate it when I see it in movie trailers, but they can at least explain themselves as not wan

Specifically, I think AdviceAnimals and Gaming are the most toxic defaults plaguing the front page. Reddit would have a substantially more intelligent front page if it got rid of those defaults. I would almost suggest replacing /r/

Still not nearly as bad as Reddit. Subreddits have value, but look at the front page of Reddit. Zero value. On any given day, of any week, month, or year. Reddit's front page is 100% wasted time. I demonstrate this by asking to myself:

Anonymity isn't why. You can be anonymous on Hacker News very easily. Most people here are. It's the lack of a karma system that is why people on 4chan post whatever they like.

I wasn't expecting it this early, although I'm not sure the early delivery will help me since I'll be out of town between November 26th and December 4th (estimated delivery window it gave me). Still, nice to have it ordered a

If iOS ever completely dominates marketshare (probably unlikely since I think Android still outsells it globally), I would expect antitrust lawsuits to occur for Apple regarding iOS default programs. Much like Microsoft in the past.

By the title, I was hoping this was the Simpsons opening done entirely in CSS using animations. I bet it's possible, but would require insane effort. Still awesome though.

Then there's Samsung, I think they're the largest conglomerate in the world. My mom would affiliate Samsung with TVs. I'd probably put them with computer monitors and phones. They also build skyscrapers and power plants (Sams

Front-end stuff always seems to make the front page of Hacker News. I think it's because front-end is easier, and possibly more "hip" right now (as far as jobs go), so there's more interest in it.

If Apple wants to conserve bandwidth against scrapers, they should offer pre-ordering or their own product alerts service. In any case, it's trivial to write a Google Apps Script to scrape their product page, ran routinely via triggers

Ugh. Just people you disagree with someone doesn't make them negative. It's critique. HN is a place of dissenting opinions. It's ok to have an opinion different than yours.

This isn't the 1970s where you could get hired as a novice and trained on the job. In today's world you need to be a rockstar programmer right out of college. Training? No start up wants to gamble resources on that.
