I'm working on a universal tool to create and print custom dust jackets. I like collecting books and have lots of series, but editions and cover/spine designs changes all the time for no good reason. Especially for long series it&

It is well understood already that the number of autistic people is not actually increasing. What is increasing is our understanding of it and the number of diagnostics. The fact that high functioning people like Asperger got merged with it

Natural language is a terrible interface to interact with a computer, worse than any UI or programming language. LLMs are more like replacing automobiles with mechanical horses. You fundamentally cannot get it significantly better.

There are great and normal juniors as well. Junior does not mean incompetent, it means unexperienced.

Even if they did allow that, a big part of the budget would probably go into another useless UI revamp.

I have a 10 days-old baby and I've learned a lot about their communication lately. It is true that there are many other cues, like opening their mouth, trying to suck or lick anything around. My son gets agitated in his sleep quite som

I have a 10 days old baby, and this comment resonates a lot with the experience of bathing him. He is very calm and seems to appreciate the experience, until it's time to get out of it. We do our best to keep him warm and heat the room

I'm reusing the alpha channel indeed. And I reverse it for the innermost side of the border. const float MIN_ALPHA_THRESHOLD = 0.3; const float MAX_ALPHA_THRESHOLD = 0.7; [...] if (fragmentColor.a < MIN_ALPHA_THR

For my game Astral Divide, I ended-up making a technique that is not listed. It's similar to the one described as "Blurred Buffer", except that instead of doing a blur pass, I'm exploiting the borders created by the anti

I'm curious: what language are you working on where ctags are useful? I spent years fighting with those to try to have a satisfying setup that worked, but found ctags to be high maintenance (always breaking in some way, not context-awa

LSPs are useful because they are context-aware and understand the syntax. But that advantage becomes a weakness when you need more complex text replacement or specific repetitive actions. That is why I use vim with an LSP, I find it to be t

LLMs are not the right tool for the job, so even if some marginal bits can be improved, it fundamentally cannot "get better". The job of a software engineer is to first understand the real needs of the customer/user, which re

The problem is that Go is not designed to be a simple language for it's users, it's designed to be a simple language to implement for it's maintainers. In my opinion, a simple language should be highly consistent (have a few

I agree about implicit exceptions, but I think that there is a sweet spot with explicit exceptions like Swift (and maybe Java): where you cannot not-handle one, it is part of a function's signature, and the syntax is still compact enou

"Do what I say, not what I do" is almost a design guideline of Go at this point, there are so many inconsistencies like this in the language design.
