This guy seems to think that engineers only make things that are dangerous. Sure, there are engineers that build bridges. But there are also enormous numbers of computer engineers that build custom ASICs for, I dunno, TVs and Furbies. The

Yes, I wrote Edisyn. Hmm, Edisyn has never had a K3 editor; it's on my list if I ever come across a unit. It's got a K1, K4 and K5 editor. How are you using Edisyn with your K3?

Interesting that he mentions the Dave Smith Instruments (now Sequential) Prophet 12. I have a Prophet P08, and have opened it up to repair it, and it is a work of design elegance. It contains five boards, each connected via an easily remo

Maytag was US-only as far as I knew. It had a reputation for extreme long life and reliability, much like the reputation Volvo used to have for cars. And, like Volvo, this reputation was then squandered. Back in the 1980s Maytag used to r

I think physical modeling is a poor choice. The advantage of subtractive synthesis is that each of its elements (oscillators, filters, amplifiers, modulation, effects) has an impact on the sound more or less independent of the others, and s

The term dynamo comes from metaphoric relationship to electric generators and the power they produce, not the notion of being "dynamic" (a modern usage of the word).

> For me (being Dutch), a dynamo is an electricity generator That's what a dynamo is in English as well. But yes, a dynamo is also a forceful energetic individual (or thing).

I'm confused. MTS is quite exhaustive on MIDI 1.0. How is microtonality in 1.0 a hack compared to what's being provided in 2.0? There are obviously a number of 2.0 features that are much more advanced than 1.0 (MIDI is primitive

Given C++'s grotesque track record of insane new syntax, this wouldn't seem to be an advantage.

I can think of many reasons why MIDI 2.0 might be advantageous. But microtonality? Why? MIDI 1.0's MTS supports everything Scala can throw at it, doesn't it?

I'm not sure this counts. Their similarity in name notwithstanding, MIDI 2.0 is explicitly a different protocol from MIDI 1.0. It's not meant to replace it, but to exist in parallel with it. Which is good because I suspect it&#

Actually, this kind of a collective lie perpetrated in the synth community. MIDI's version number never changed from 1.0, but it has had numerous revisions, including LSB+MSB CC values, NRPN and RPN, General MIDI definitions, MIDI S

WebAssembly permits stack inspection to the degree that you could fully implement call/cc? Java of course does not. This would seem to be a security risk.
