I am so not going to buy this game. EA just don't get it so I will help them a bit by choosing to spend my money elsewhere.

Got to agree with you, tptacek. People are conveniently forgetting that so many other fired CEO's with fat bank balances have not bothered to be honest about their reasons for leaving. This is classy.

Maybe, just maybe this more reasonable behaviour is a positive outcome from the Aaron Swartz tragedy.

Pretty much anything Google does is cool. Probably same could be said about Amazon, Facebook et al. Depends a lot on your interpretation of "Cool" though.

The fact that Node.js is being used in this equation says a lot about how much impact and penetration it has achieved in a rather short while. Personally I hope that Go does just as well, if not a lot better. I am a bit of a fan of both.

All great and well spending 20-40 hours trying someone out to see if they are a good fit, but this is only practical once you are down to a very short list of final candidates. Nothing is said about how you actually get to this final list a

Easy to say, but as always, the devil is in the details. I can say to make money "buy low, sell high" but of course it is not that simple. Dieting has all sorts of psychological and physical factors that vastly complicated the picture.

Took a quick look at this - did not make much sense to me and looked nothing like my HN front page. Not criticizing, just not for me.

As much as I would like to see a patent troll smashed, I think that a company asserting rights that are challenge-able in a court is not racketeering. Greedy, despicable and morally bankrupt, yes.

Haven't seen posts by Groklaw on HN for a while, or maybe I just missed them. Good to see Groklaw back on the front page, I always like reading the articles.

The same thing happens in the UK. Napster for example charges more than 50% more for a download service in the UK, than in the USA. Completely ridiculous for an internet based download service. I was going to subscribe until I learned this.

I have worked with some immensely powerful and complicated spreadsheets with entire worksheets nearly full of formulas and 10's of thousands of lines of VBA code. This includes spreadsheet driven systems trading 50-100 million dollars dail

Don't like the use of the word Martyrdom here. Although there are quite a few definitions of the word, in general it means someone killed themselves to send a message or prove a point. I very much doubt Aaron killed himself to be a martyr,

The article kind of contradicts itself. First saying that the asteroid impact theory is pretty outdated and then not really coming up with anything other than maybe it was asteroid impact and/or volcanic activity and/or changing sea levels.

Safety is always a compromise. The more you spend on safety, the less money you will make. Having the company itself decide when something is "safe enough" is a recipe for disaster, quite literally.

To think that a company will police itself adequately in the face of losing money if rules are enforced correctly is naive in the extreme. Since when has big business ever cared more about safety than the bottom line?

I came on to post this exact same thing. Clearly there was abuse of flagging going on. I would hope that a moderator will look at it and see who was needlessly flagging posts.

As a veteran of the finance industry, I can safely say that the industry does make a real contribution to society, however there is a "but" here. It is also full of ruthless, greedy, narcissistic, over-paid and dangerously short-sighted ind

This hardly untraceable. Everything going through the networks is recordable and the Government has access to it all.
