It is not the loss for 1 game that is important here, but the decision making and approach that Atari took for this game and probably elsewhere as well. If Atari were making strange decisions here, they were likely doing it elsewhere, ultim

Talk about screwed up priorities. Atari spent $21 million on ET video game rights, $5 million on an advertising campaign and gave 1 programmer, 5 weeks to deliver something that would justify that cost. No wonder they went bankrupt!

From the Chinese government point of view they have several good reasons (for them) for doing this, chief among them (in my opinion) saving face and controlling mass opinion. When China was the huge success story it was, until recently, the

I am only a casual user of Linux and have no axe to grind or sacred cows to protect. From my point of view, one of the biggest issues with Linux is fragmentation - which of the 2000 flavours of Linux do I choose for my home use and why. My

I highly doubt they just drew C out of a hat and decided to make it work for their multi million dollar, "absolutely-cannot-fail-software". They would have considered other languages out there. C was the winner.

C can be very safe or very unsafe, it just depends on how you use it. As a counter point: critical code for missions to Mars are written in C. http://www.verticalsysadmin.com/making_robust_software/

Driving around Africa should be considered carefully and researched even more carefully. There are very real dangers and complete no-go areas. Good luck out there!

You may of course be right, I would find it surprising in the extreme if people were killed based purely on output of an algorithm. However we have no assurance that this tool was not used to generate kill targets without any human input.

10 seconds on a search engine will supply 1000's of links to issues with Thorium and LFTR, some of which are high quality and some of which are garbage. Note that the OP did not provide links in support of their position.

The idea of Thorium reactors as a better nuclear fuel option, gets proposed frequently on HN. There are real issues with it though. There are reasons why it is not a fuel of choice today, that have nothing to do with conspiracy theories. A
