I have chrome and firefox running, 20 tabs between the two, some heavy ones (google doc, gmail), iterm and PDFs with preview on an MBA 4GB, no issues, memory pressure in activity monitor is still green. One little nitpick, my dev enviroment

Clojure is simpler, defaulting to immutable data structures literals and a good REPL is superior to most of that tooling IMO.

Outside of Java, jetbrains doesn't have much or anything to offer against vscode, hence the GP's comment. Jetbrains is even lagging behind, look at vscode remote capabilities which is way ahead jetbrains remote features.

What's a common approach for keeping the index up to date? A live ETL from the DB to the search engine doesn't sound simple. Another method I can think of, after existent data has been loaded, is to send the data directly at the s

Hiring good devs doesn't make JS less stupid, you have to recur to third party stuff like lodash and https://github.com/inspect-js to keep it tolerable.

Once javascript gets immutable types and better handling of objects, the gap between it and clojure will very small for most daily tasks. https://github.com/tc39/proposal-record-tuple https://github.com/

Using ELB(yes, even for one machine) from the start means one less process to worry about, you get HTTPS and don't have to deal with certs, its also cheap. Since he's striving for "simplicity" and already is in AWS.
