No not really, Matrix doesn't have voice rooms or game streaming. It has voice calls and meetings but that's not the same thing and has much higher friction to use.

I doubt people hate decentralization directly, it's just that the decentralized services out there are difficult to use and lack features people are used to.

What OS doesn't have a package manager now? Windows, Linux, and MacOS all have their own systems. On windows, the package manager downloads the release of notepad++ directly from github, so it would not have been compromised. The hijac

Yeah having a messaging app I enjoy using is important. Good UI and fun features make something worth using, it's why telegram is still my most used messenger.

Everything is fantastic, I wish I could find a Linux alternative with a similar GUI and filter/search bar syntax.

I think this is what icloud does. Seems like an easy way to make tracking useless if every client did it.

Yes in my opinion the benefit of smart home stuff is not controlling things from my phone or tablet or some touchscreen on the wall. But instead having the same physical switches and controls as one normally would, with the ability to autom

I assume if you download the stream directly it could be shown that your copy and youtubes copy are identical, since encoding a video and compressing it is different every time.

I guess the answer is just screen record instead of doing anything with the data from YouTube directly.

It seems to me it would be terrible mechanically because the driver has 2 very weak little lobes sticking out.

It shouldn't! Fort just flashes the tray icon if there's a new connection request and you can click it whenever you want, instead of a popup in your face in the middle of something.

It's quite good! It definitely deserves to be more popular, I hope it gets some more recognition. Wildcards are great, like you said for those apps that change the directory name every single update.

I think these days updates through the OS package manager is a better option, windows has had winget for 5+ years now, and obviously linux and macos both have their own established systems.

Yeah I've been using Fort on windows, it's easy to use and not closed source and full of bloat like the commonly suggested windows firewalls from various security companies.

I've been using Fort: https://github.com/tnodir/fort It's the best one I found after trying a few, because it's pretty easy to use, and lets me disable notification popups which is a part that always fru

I guess my habit of running a firewall and not allowing programs to access the internet unless they actually need it is helpful for stuff like this. Absolutely no reason a text editor needs internet access. I only update stuff through winge

I've used change detection for in-stock alerts before, or event updates. Plenty of legitimate uses.

1 request per second is nowhere even close to hammering a website. They made the data available on the website already, there's no reason to contact them when you can just load it from their website.

There are massive areas in the US not covered by 5G, or any cell service. Are you just assuming that coverage is 100% everywhere? Most places I'm at with 5G also have really poor speeds, usually under 10Mbps download with fairly high l

Yes lots of them use cheap LEDs with poor CRI, high color temperature, and a huge blue spike in the spectrum. All of that leads to a very bright looking light that also doesn't let you see detail very well.

Even with graphene I don't believe it mitigates much as far as apps collecting data. The idea for more privacy is you run open source apps instead that just don't collect data. AFAIK Graphene is oriented towards strong device secu
