This is why both sets of speaker cables to my amplifier are the same length. It does make me curious about the recording process and effects if one microphone has lets say 50 feet of cable and another on a different musician has 100 feet of

I think no matter what devices you use, you've nailed down the most important part of things which is using apps and services that are flexible, and can be easily used on another platform.

MS does offer W10 VM images that are good for 60 days (or 90, can't remember), to be used for development and testing.

From some research I've done, charging to 90% vs 100% roughly doubles lifespan, 80% vs 90% doubles it again, and it has less and less impact below 80%. Discharging to 20% vs 0% doesn't seem to have as much of an impact, but still

I love the early windows interfaces, everything is so clean and easy to find just with a quick glance at a screenshot.

This doesn't seem to have any reasons to avoid matrix that I can see. The whole bridges section is strange since that's set up by each homeserver admin, and you can just.. not do that.

Somehow you're clearing all the data Element uses. Those popups only show up on initial login to a new browser session. If you're clearing cookies or local data that would be why.

I wish it wasn't such a weird key combo though, it would be nice to do it with 1 hand.

Surely the raspi linux distro has that disabled by default?

Yep! Not much point in buying new hardware for running basic services at home, especially since used business stuff is so cheap, it can cost 1/10th the amount for similar results of buying new.

As far as I know the app can just ask to run in the background and then it works. Problem is many apps don't use the native dialog box to request it, and instead ask the user to go to settings and do it manually.

A box with an i5-4570 or similar and 8GB of RAM costs about $80 to buy, and uses ~25W or around $25-30 a year in power. A comparable VPS or Dedicated box is easily 10x the cost. I think people see those ridiculous rack-mount servers some pe

NAT isn't an issue, but CGNAT is a problem and becoming more common as IPv4 space gets more expensive.

Most self hosted things don't need to be on the internet, the only things I have on the internet are a webserver, a game server or two, and an openvpn server. The rest of my stuff is all local/vpn only.

The centered taskbar in Windows 11 is a perfect example of this kind of stuff, instead of muscle memory to click something you have to hunt for it because everything moves around.

My first thought is this game just happens to put a lot of load on the card, and EVGA has some faulty VRMs out there that are burning up.

Yeah it has firmly kept me away from AWS, Google cloud, and similar. I use Vultr or Digitalocean if I need a server somewhere because at least it's just a pre-set cost.

Is it actually 100% completely ad-free, or is it like Hulu where you pay and still have some ads sometimes? Because it's not entirely clear on their premium page.

Look at used passive cooled stuff with mobile CPUs! I have 2 boxes with i3-7100u CPUs, 32GB RAM, and a proper SATA SSD that use around 2W of power each most of the time. The peak power is of course higher than a Pi, but they generally are n

I have these 2 passively cooled i3-7100u boxes with 32GB of RAM, that idle at 2W of power each most of the day, they also have SSDs instead of uSD cards. The Pi makes sense for projects where you need a low performance embedded solution wit

I don't have an M1, but on my computers I find Chrome to be memory heavy and rather slow. It's worth trying out Firefox and seeing if that works better for you.

I have some passively cooled i3-7100u boxes I recently got, each with an M.2 slot and 2 RAM modules, and they idle at around 2W each when booted into Debian. I've never felt like Pis are that great for power vs performance for most app

I use plausible on my site (and tested out a few other similar options), and ublock origin and brave browser both blocked all of them. So I guess it's not too surprising that it's still the same ratio.
