It is difficult to figure out what to do with old Li-ion batteries, some local stores accept certain types for recycling, but I have a few larger batteries from ebikes and power tools that they won't take, and I can't figure out w

I've used those before, they have a horrifying amount of noise on the output, lots of RF noise, and a very audible high-pitch whine. They also overheat very quickly even at half the 'rated' load.

At least they added tabs to explorer finally, so for that specific taskbar icon it's no longer an issue

I figure the title is meant to be taken as a joke right?

It's pretty funny how T-Mobile has rolled out 5G in my small town (with a single cell tower), but have not bothered to upgrade the connection to the tower so we still only get about 2mbps on a good day. Even better is the local ISP off

Same with Bitwarden or Keepass, it's certainly not unique to 1password.

Well, like the article says the biggest issue is it's difficult to even get parts to repair them, I imagine most hardware used in schools will need some repairs in a few years, so having access to parts is important.

Yeah most smartphones don't even come close to 4 years. And many other laptops don't get any BIOS/Firmware updates pretty much right after launch.

That would be really bad if true, a high end laptop like a Macbook should have support for a long time.

I find it quite funny. There are some benefits to having wifi on its own chip doing its own thing so it doesn't interfere with timing on your main code, the downside being more complex code to get it all working. But it's still fu

Resolve works on Linux too, which is one reason I support them over other options.

Last I tried it's an ok basic editor for simple projects, but it lacked the 3d features and more advanced stuff like stabilization, tracking, frame generation, etc.. that Resolve has. Basically it's a timeline editor like Resolves

It's extremely expensive since you have to buy apple hardware to run it.

Unless it very specifically says that in the bill, it could target individuals later on.

I'm kind of blown away that they're using the actual ipad for time critical stuff like that, I thought for sure they would have a processor dedicated to it and the ipad just as the interface.

On Ubuntu they hijack apt commands to install the snap instead for some packages, so removing snap is only part of the steps you'd have to do.

by Saris 4y ago
My favorite experience with snaps is Firefox just closing in the middle of doing something because it wanted to update, and it didn't even bother to check if I was using it first.

I've been using bitwarden for that, the vaultwarden server is selfhosted which is what I do, or you can buy their fairly cheap premium version.

Forums are not great for usability though. You need a unique login for every forum, notifications are a mess and usually via email, the UIs are poor and difficult to use, every forum usually has a different theme with different locations fo

Unfortunately google authenticator is a bit user-hostile and doesn't offer backups, Aegis is a nicer alternative that does, I would recommend using that or something similar as you set things back up.

I see they're still doing the usual back-button hijack that every microsoft website seems to do as well.

They've flipped on that decision before though, I wouldn't trust it.

How is a pin code or swipe pattern safer than a password? What happens if you lose access to your devices and only have a friends computer, how do you log in to things?

Pretty much all of the small boxes just use the iGPU.

I think just sleeping the HDDs might get about the same result. I have a couple systems with i3-7100U CPUs, with 2 sticks of RAM and an NVMe SSD they idle at about 1-2 watts booted up into Proxmox. HDDs suck down a lot of power relative to

3.5" HDDs are 5 watts each while idle, if you can spin them down they're much less, but that tough with multiple services constantly accessing data.

It has none, mastodon is not mature or functional enough to be useful for most people.
