I don't know if Herriot was a vet in real life. If he was and suffered from depression it wouldn't surprise me. I have seen statistics which state that vets more likely to commit suicide than GPs. And the story about the young man

External assistance for sure, from state actors who would never assist a VC funded startup. Your point about China is exactly the same as mine. A state determined to build something will eventually succeed, especially if it's a country

I don't need to take any liberal arts classes, all I have to do is chat with a barista at Star Bucks. None of them can even spell PDE without help from a smartphone.

A practising vet introduced me to Herriot. He told me they were like PG Wodehouse but with animals. Surely the enjoyment they provided was that counts: why stress out over "authenticity." (Banksy comes to mind for some reason: he

They have the entire resources of their state available for funding. They will catch up and pass the West. Take nuclear weapons: even Pakistan and North Korea were able to catch up.

STEM majors are inherently better overall. Are you trying to be sarcastic or funny? I can't tell. I've yet to find a liberal arts grad who even knows what a partial differential equation is.

A STEM grad can learn history, literature etc fairly easily. The other direction is possible but not so easy.
