I think you’re disregarding some key parts of my comment. iPhone marketshare continues to grow. Apple’s phones were never dominant in marketshare. iOS does however remain dominant in web usage share, that tells me that Apple commands actual

> I don't think the ipad air and retina mini are enough to change that trend [of iPad market share dropping] On the whole tablet market, it depends on how many cheap ($100-$300) tablets are flooding the market. When comparing $300-$

I don’t want to come across as gloating, but just to add a data point: Chrome 30 on OS X 10.9 works fine. I’m toying around with the icons right now.

I love it and I’ll be using it, thanks. Previous similar sets of icons I found didn’t include all of the icons I needed. The main ones I need are: email, home, share, arrows, checkmark, cross, help, love, and link. I’m thrilled that this co

> The 15" is slightly less DPI. The DELL has a 15.6" screen, the MBP has a 15.4" screen. The screens both have the same resolution and aspect ratio. That means the MBP’s screen has a slightly higher DPI (221 versus 218).

‘iDevices’ aka ‘iOS devices’ = iPad, iPhone, iPod touch, and AppleTV. Of those, iPhone is by far the biggest business (it accounts for over half of Apple’s revenues.)[1] Revenues from iOS devices are still on the rise.[2] The September quar

I don’t see why you’re comparing it to last year’s 13" MacBook Pro. The new 15" MacBook Pro has specs that are very much like this DELL laptop. Same screen size, same resolution. Same SSD, RAM, and GPU. The MBP has a slightly fast

I’d much rather Apple creates an iPad Pro. For instance, a 13.3" screen @ 3072 by 2048 pixels could fit two regular iPad apps (in portrait mode) alongside each other. Then, apps could be adapted to take advantage of the double screen r

The IIfx was released in 1990, but yeah, it was an amazing machine. Using expansion cards, it could drive 6 monitors! By 1996, the time GP was talking about, Apple had released dual processor PowerMacs.

I would say 1995 to 1997 were the dark days. Not because MacOS wasn’t working well (even though its aging architecture did mean it needed to be replaced someday.) Apple’s problem was one of focus. They had too many product lines, too many m

You run Windows 8 on a 10 year old notebook? According to Microsoft, you need a CPU with NX, which weren’t around until 2005, and you’d need a at least Pentium 4 (Prescott). Other system requirements are 1Ghz clock rate and 2GB RAM.

Contrary to what you seem to be suggesting, in 1996 Macs ran full color 3D games, could use large screens, and they were known for its graphics – remember that MYST was made on Macs. System 7.5 was a great OS, it just didn’t have the modern

This shows a Macintosh Plus running System 7.0.1. The computer could actually run versions up to 7.5.5 – an OS that came out in 1996. That’s quite amazing, given the Plus was released in 1986. Try running Windows 8 or OS X Mavericks on a 10

We can discuss Lou Reed’s contribution to the Velvet Underground, I sure could fill hours and hours. He made some great albums later on as well. When I was studying English lit, Edgar Allen Poe’s works were covered. About 6 months later, Re

So we probably shouldn’t discuss NSA surveillance ever again here on HN, right? Lou Reed spoke on technology at SXSW. He was an audio purist. He made a video mocking the GOP. I think he qualified as an influential geek and deserves a black
