I second the approach of using text files and syncthing. Using a markdown editor on my phone and computers means I've always got access to view, edit and create new ones, even offline, that all sync up when I'm back online. It wor

Just because people go back to discredited ideas doesn't mean they weren't discredited. Malthus - and later Ehrlich - made specific predictions about the sustainability of population increase, and they were proven flat out wrong.

This is where cryptocurrency is meant to come in. No reliance on third parties needed. Infrastructure still being built but things like OpenBazaar are out there.

OpenBazaar isn't the only decentralized marketplace out there, but it is the only one with any significant adoption. It took four years to get there so rebuilding from scratch seems unwise when it's open source and you could add y

You can use an address and not just the whole country. But yes, OpenBazaar currently isn't built for local communities. A feature we want to add eventually.

As others have pointed out in this thread, the software part is more or less already built. It's called OpenBazaar. And you're right that adoption is the hardest part. OpenBazaar has had about 55k people using it since last Novemb

There are two types of payments in OpenBazaar: direct and moderated. Direct is when buyers completely trust vendors. There's no escrow and no safety net at all. Moderated is when both parties agree to a third party moderator and the fu

We would absolutely welcome attempts to integrate other forms of payment into OpenBazaar. Our escrow system currently relies on multisig but that's the only significant impediment to adoption.

OpenBazaar is over four years old now. It didn't emerge out of blockchain hype. Cryptocurrency means it can be completely peer to peer and not reliant on any payment processing platforms, and with multisig is allows for powerful escrow

I work on OpenBazaar and want to add that we've built it to support people creating custom front end clients for their own particular use case and are not compelled at all to use the reference client. So they can use the OpenBazaar bac

Instead of having a bunch of proprietary, centralized markets for each service, why not create an open source, p2p protocol for trade and let anyone offer anything they want? Rhetorical question. It's called OpenBazaar and it's al

Safekeeping of keys is not a solved problem. There is something nefarious about trying to set precedent when the precedent is conscripting companies into the surveillance state. They lied about their capabilities in order to force a company

There are very few totally distributed applications out there, and no social networks ones that I'm aware that have any traction. I think Diaspora is the closest: https://diasporafoundation.org
