The government is not meant to be majority rule. It was explicitly created to prevent majority rule. The Senate acted as a longer term, more stable body to counteract the more popularist House. Originally citizens didn't even vote for

Agree with embracing being bad at some things. For perfectionists it's basically therapy. I'm training for a triathlon. I kinda suck at it. Taking me way longer than I had planned, much slower progress. It's humbling, but als

I can recommended ACT for folks with depression largely stemming from life situations (as opposed to clear medical issues). The death of my parents (among other life events) has been difficult for me and ACT has helped.

Very well said. A form of unrequited love, and also something which can be positive. I've lived this.

When governments stop taking monetary policy seriously and inflation starts to meaningfully destroy savings, you can understand why alternatives gain some traction.

Spend a few days using Reddit normally. This doesn't need to be torture, find a few small subreddits with a niche interest (there are tons of good tech subs) and just make a couple comments each day. That's all it'll take for

I second this. I do long distance cycling and always had an audiobook going. One day my battery died and I had an hour and a half of silence. I found my thoughts were enjoyable. I now take some rides without any audio at all.

We've seen multiple attempts at non-capitalist systems, and they have an abysmal track record. Living standards are way higher today than a century ago. You are comparing against a non-existent Utopia.

New variants appear to be more contagious, but not deadlier. For health people my age, there is very nearly 0% chance of death. Combining my chance with that of unhealthy people, especially elderly, isn't compelling.

This is some hardcore victim blaming. The man is wrongfully incarcerated and medicated against his will for years, and your response is "if people trusted authority more this wouldn't happen." What?
