Am I crazy when I say I don't see these popups on the mobile web version of reddit anymore? I don't see what the fuss is about. It's pretty much the same as what the gif in TFA is showing, except no blinking 'use app

You don't have to pick one. I write my projects in vim and keep the IDE open for when I want to refactor/debug. I'm not against using the IDE mind you, I sometimes refactor then keep on typing in the IDE. But I find myself na

This articles hits the head on why I think OOP is hot air. Everything that OOP espouses is achievable through a different way from what an OOP language like Java chose. Abstraction and Encapsulation? Every programming language lets you do t

I wholeheartedly agree with this sentiment. I have a lot of keybindings but I always make sure I can survive without them, such as by dropping into vanilla vim to once in a while to do work and ensuring I'm not completely lost. A user

I'm confused. Are you saying that mainland Chinese feel -more- nationalistic if they live in the ASEAN region, i e. outside of their home country? Or are these employees from an ASEAN country but are just Chinese in ethnicity?

No one mentioning that the site being SPA makes it laggy? If this were a static webpage - and it should - the scrolling would be 100% responsive. Instead on my 2015 macbook the animation stutters when loading the page in and scrolling down

Okay but web apps have no killer app to motivate switching to. Whatever killer app that webapps can come up with, so can native apps. The two benefits - webapps don't need to be explicitly downloaded - webapps don't need to be exp

This is why integration tests are more valuable than unit tests. Integration tests directly test the desired output, no need to think about what to test. Integration tests flag if something is wrong, unit tests help refine which part is wro

If you want site longevity, HTML is the way to go. It's fine if you clients aren't expecting to maintain their website for the next 10 years, go ahead and use the JavaScript framework. Tell me that React websites today will still

I like formatters like Prettier and gofmt as well, but not StandardJS. I'd still use it if everyone used it though. I just don't like their stance of relying on automatic semicolon insertion, even if Go does the same thing

Funny, I thought it was the Go-fication of JavaScript. Look at the 'contributing' section of their stdlib: "deno_std is a loose port of Go's standard library. When in doubt, simply port Go's source code, documentati

you know, it just occurred to me that transpilers are basically lisp like macros for programming languages that don't support it. i.e. Rewriting your preferred syntax into a syntax that is supported by the programming language.

Semicolon JavaScript is trivially easy to write with a formatter -- just hit format and it inserts semicolons for you. And has no footguns.

RE: not storing address in a single field, splitting an address into semantic fields feels like a premature optimisation. You’re forced to anticipate all the fields that you may want to aggregate by, before you may actually even use them. I

I've always viewed `awk '!a[$0]++'` as superior to `sort | uniq` because it preserves order and does not have to sort the data first before deduplicating. But `sort | uniq` is much easier to remember.

I think monoliths can be written the same way such that you can change one module without changing the others. Microservices enforce that best practice.

Did the Tailwind projects use the @apply directive, or just plain Tailwind classes all the way? Asking because I wonder how Tailwind deals with project wide style changes. With traditional CSS you just update the class in one location, with

I’m using Tachyons over Tailwind because not needing a build step appeals to me. I vastly prefer the smaller footprint of Tachyons, but I do miss Tailwind’s comprehensive color palette sometimes. I could always manually add it in, but for n
