There's a significant contingent of people who find typing numbers with the number row cumbersome (me included). If, for whatever reason, you need to type a lot of numbers, it can be quite inconvenient to not have a numpad.

Can someone explain the last paragraph? The author gives the example of trying to find a 70 Ohm resistor and how the 68 Ohm and 75 Ohm are a little off. They conclude by saying you should just use 33 and 47 Ohm resistors, but wouldn't

Isn't the crux of the article that they're observing less karma farming? I don't know if I agree with their data but they seem to be saying that it's getting better.

The article isn't about the new layout. It's about an apparent difference in the karma system that seems to de-prioritize content from karma farmers and content that comes from off of Reddit. For specific subreddits it's hard

It's not that mind-boggling. In general we need to use specific properties of numbers to prove whether they are irrational, and pi+e has very few useful properties to work from. Even proving pi is irrational is not trivial and it is on

It's not Tech Tangent I think. In the article he writes "some of the disk images [Tech Tangents] found at the HP Computer Museum" which implies to me that they're different people working on similar machines. Also Tech T

I just finished my math undergraduate program, and the class that I enjoyed most that you don't seem to have studied at all is topology. We used Munkres, which seems to be pretty standard as far as undergrad topology is concerned, and

This whole article is a mess. There are no details except that there will be a change to the payment model for advertising. The article just fearmongers about “emotion recognition” which it isn't even clear TikTok is trying to do. To m

At this point there isn't a compelling reason to switch for any party. The experience on Android vs. IOS isn't meaningfully different to me, and while I think Apple probably does a better job with privacy (which I personally value

I think ChatGPT will cause similar problems to those already experienced in STEM disciplines, particularly math. Students can use a camera based app on their phones that can do an entire worksheet in seconds, computer algebra systems are ba

Narrowly interpreting Godwin's law, it seems easy enough to design a chatbot to avoid references to Hitler outside of an appropriate context (like asking the chatbot to tell you about Hitler's response to D-Day). However, the more

I think the closest there is to a consensus among economists is that deficit spending is beneficial at least some of the time, especially during recessionary periods. An amendment that didn't allow any deficit spending would severely l

Unless there are more qualifiers, wouldn't any user be able to avoid being banned by simply running for any office? It's not particularly hard to run for office, it's only hard to be elected. I agree that discriminating on po

From an outsider's perspective it seems almost intuitive that market makers (the pros) make money off of retail (the amateurs). It's hard to imagine how that could not be the case.
