Seriously, what the hell is going on with these lawsuits? Is Apple really on a mission to prove that with enough money you can win any legal battle?

I have to say that I am really curious as to why you would want to base your business viability on 'assumptions' regarding the average amount of users unique data. I think one missed point when doing this generalization is also the target a

We at SpiderOak in fact do not cross-account deduplicate AT ALL and provide a full zero-knowledge environment with no access to client side encryption key info. We feel that the possible cost savings involved with deduplicating data across

Cross account deduplication has nothing to do with making improvement client side, it's all about keeping storage costs down for the provider. The only type of deduplication that matters to consumers is account specific deduplication, and t

As long as you don't need to decrypt with user defined key to compare data, it is NOT zero-knowledge. Plain and simple.

For those interested in strict zero-knowledge and cross account deduplication we at SpiderOak wrote a post on the issue a while back; https://spideroak.com/blog/20100827150530-why-spideroak-does...

I assume it runs on your computers behind your firewall and not actually 'inside' the firewall. Also don't quite understand why TC would compare it to Dropbox. Seems like a solid service on it's on merit.

I have to say that I find it a 'little' sad that the entire post reads like a Press Release, touting 'client side encryption' like something new and exciting and two thirds down it's revealed that CrunchFund is an investor. Poor author didn

I wish Techcrunch would have spent more time investigating, following up and seeking out interesting start-up companies then they did posting just to create buzz and pageviews. At least 25% of all posts on Techcrunch were 'in the know' piss

Probably not a bad initiative. I would still like to see large department store chains actually invest in their staff through salaries and education directly, instead of adding technology.

Thank you. I'm sorry to say this but the TV and music industry have time and time again shown that they are completely uninterested in new distribution models and if history rings true, they will never 'get it'.

EFF have some 'weasels' that they sometimes lend out to worthwhile projects. Not sure they would take on this issue though.

Now HP just need to realize the amazing 'value' created by their flop with the Touchpad and release it again. At $99! Take a $4-$600 million dollar hit and create a HUGE base of WebOS users that they can profit off in the next few years!

Undoubtedly great for those services who cross deduplicate data. As a user however, I think it's a little 'scary' as it per default requires the service provider to have access to encryption/decryption information, hence no 'zero-knowledge'
