How close is this to a large continuous tape loop for video surveillance? I would very much welcome a filesystem that breaks away from the directories/files paradigm. Any time-based data store would greatly benefit from that.

Spaniard here. Social drinking is very much a thing in Spain. However, most social drinking is light or moderate: walk to a nearby bar, have two beers with the family or with close friends (with free tapas, which accounts for dinner), then

You don't need it. You can go ahead and use without authorization. The regulator will then simply dismiss your filing for using unacceptable sources.

Rather than thinking in blurry terms like "valid," I would see it more useful to think in terms of how many innocent people will lose their lives when good guy and bad guy use their guns. Any arrangement that makes the number grow

Just this morning I downloaded a few videos from 2013, that i hadn't watched in years but felt like watching again, because i was concerned they would be removed some day. I have then spent the afternoon watching them again. Your point

The issue is not so much "can I browse a virtual file system" but more "why should I depend on one local file system sitting on a remote server, probably owned by a third party, as being the single source of truth for my own

Cloud storage is the opposite of distributed. With cloud storage, you must have one single fixed central location (often a third party) that contains the real data, many satellite locations with a partial replica of the data, and hit-or-mis

My filesystem consists of [checks du -h . | tail -1] 189 GB. I don't think Syncthing (which I love) can cram 189 GB on my 64 GB phone. Yet I expect to have access to my filesystem from my phone. Synthing is a nice "pump-hose syste

It is good that these "water is wet" statements get written down so we can point humidity-skeptical people to them from time to time. The deeper problem is the sad state of affairs of distributed computing for the end user : * Ap

I'm pretty happy with the scanning feature of Evernote, and I think there are some other nice apps in the Android app store, but my goal is to have a solution that is not captive (either to a specific vendor or to a SaaS solution).
