Static typing can have the benefits of implicit interfaces without the danger of runtime errors- look at Go's structural typing.

object.responds_to?(:method_name) is just a run-time variation on generics constraints. C# could use a bit more work on its syntax there, but something like go's inline interface definitions would make it just as nice as Ruby.

That is most definitely Java's fault for lacking good abstractions. Try Haskell or C#- much higher content:code.

I think the real value of C is how it deals with lower-level stuff- embedded systems, drivers, kernels, etc. Writing something like a PHP module would make more sense in another language (and then wrapping it in C if you need to).

Even the latest stable release (3.6.6) starts just as fast as Chrome for me (I use an ad blocker, bookmark sync and firebug in both browsers). Firefox has been painfully slow in the past, but it seems okay now, although its UI is still rath

I realize http://to/ is a TLD and slashes don't really have much to do with TLDs; they just got me thinking about URLs in general. Relative URLs with the protocol specified is something that hadn't occurred to me before. Thanks! One quest

The problem isn't the backwards compatibility, it's the lack of features. If IE, the built-in browser for Windows, had correct support for HTML5 and CSS3, people would be far more likely to be using standards-supporting browsers, because IE
