Yeah... cars come with internet connections these days, I'd say it's the car's job.

Does Asahi (or any Linux DE) use the command key in the same way as Mac OS for keyboard shortcuts, leaving my Ctrl key free to just be a Ctrl key in the terminal? I ask because this has become very important to me, and workarounds like Kin

I like the idea of course, but I can see it so easily ending up in some forgotten corner of a stolen laptop bag. The common theme that keeps coming up with activation lock that Apple's customers do not understand this feature until it

I keep thinking that the right solution to this problem is to add an HSM that functions as a bearer title for the device, layered above the existing Apple root of trust, that comes in the box. It could sign an activation lock removal and gi

Oracle Linux on my home server, although I want to use Kernel 6 so may move to a different distro when that need arises. Amazon Linux in EC2, although I'm not thrilled with AL2023.

Blocking it might be a cat-and-mouse thing that works with heuristics, which would of course be unreliable in both directions.

I would have also made that assumption, but I have to admit I'm not surprised it doesn't. IIRC, iMessage was introduced with iOS 5, which supported iPhone 3GS. The secure enclave didn't show up until iPhone 5S which shipped w

Good GUIs for great software are really compelling. I'm a virsh/kvm user myself, but I admit I'd probably leverage more features of the platform if the interface was easier to use.

I use pfSense on top of KVM, with TP-Link Omada for wifi. Rock-solid. You can install pfSense using the serial image[1] for a real text-only console you can access via SSH to the host machine. The Omada controller runs well in docker[2]. 1:

I used to use a PowerShell snippet for adding SeBackupPrivilege and SeRestorePrivilege to an app or explorer window. That will let you read/write anywhere on disk.

> Enshittification of windows is going strong I remember fondly the days when I thought Windows was getting better all the time. The thing that's funny about that is I suspect it's a different epoch for different people.

X2 had just come out, and AOL (among others) had been advertising the new connection speeds. Didn't do me much good with my external 9600 baud modem. My mother has a friend who was an engineer at US Robotics at that time. I must'v

I'd go a little farther than that—I suspect that they were worried a chunk of users would assume the device required the cord for normal operation.

That was pretty wild. I created a multi-player game and within a few minutes 31 other people showed up. Then I used alt+tab and the game crashed.

Definitely an interesting problem. If you're interested in going down the rabbit hole, some light googling suggests that HP uses an AMI BIOS. You might be able to mod it: https://winraid.level1techs.com/t/howto-get

This is a really interesting approach, as embedding into an option ROM means you could potentially flash it into a modded BIOS. My preferred method to boot NVMe on a legacy system though is to boot tianocore UEFI with an NVME module in it[1
