I don't even see a big deal about requiring a call, as long as the call itself goes smoothly and they don't give you the runaround or use bullying tactics to talk you out of it. They offer refunds if you contact them... that on its own does

Agreed. You would have to pre-whitelist, or at least have a junk folder you could look in where non-captchad messages get stored for a certain amount of time before being purged so that you could fish out the emails from non-whitelisted add

I don't imagine this would take off, especially once people realize they can't receive any automated emails anymore (sign up confirmations, email validation requests, e-bills, reciepts for online purchases, any kind of service notification,

Is the iPhone 5 really going to have a different dock connector? That makes me and the stockpile of iPhone cables I have amassed over the years very sad panda.

My earliest computer gaming memories are of playing Zork with a friend on his C64. Good games and good times! I wonder if the yung'uns of today will look back on their Xbox live or MMOG multiplayer sessions with as much nostalgia.

Ahh, you're right! I was under the impression that push tokens were unique per app, but I guess it's per-device.

The fact that they had the details about the app pushing data through apns.spankapps.com means they probably sniffed the traffic when launching each of the apps on his phone, and saw that the device token that app was sending up was the sam

Something like that probably wouldn't last very long, since it could be easily gamed. 1. buy a cheap license to something that will get flagged by the auto-detecting algorithms 2. go through the red-tape of proving you have licensed the mat

Definitely dark, I find my eyes feel more strained looking at themes with a light background. My go-to for many years now has been the Wombat scheme (originally for vim here https://dengmao.wordpress.com/2007/01/22/vim-color-scheme-wo...

Thank you, Apple, for protecting me from a news aggregation/notification and mapping app like this one. I'll stick to my fart sound boards and purchasing currency for manipulative "games" with zero actual entertainment value any day!

I've avoided using 1and1, but I recently made the switch from GoDaddy to Hover.com for my domains and it was like an amazing breath of fresh air followed by a clear mountain spring water chaser. Seriously. There are way better providers out

I'm not entirely sure the value of the DNT header in the first place, even if Microsoft doesn't end up completely derailing it with this move... The kinds of advertisers who would voluntarily opt out of tracking behaviors in response to use

I've switched full time to DDG for a couple months now, and have rarely ever used !g to Google results because I was unsatisfied with the DDG results. I'm curious what the criticisms of DDG's search results are. It's clear to me that many p

I would argue that the "big break" was actually a bad thing for Reddit. The massive influx of disenfranchised Digg users contributed to the decline of quality on Reddit big-time.

I'll admit that when I wrote this, I did intend it as both a tribute to my favorite text editor as well as a tongue-in-cheek response to the cult-like following that it has. For me, membership to the pseudo-cult is just another reason why I

It all started out innocently enough. You experimented with it once or twice in your first year of college, but Nano and Pico were easier—closer to what you had already been using during high school on the Windows machines and Macs. But as

Do they really have a rule against scraping their scraped data? If so, you'd be in violation of that, but that's your problem with Google now, not Craigslist.

It actually sounds like the opposite was ultimately decided by the supreme court. Two lower courts decided in favor of the DB owner (in this case analogous to Craigslist), but the Supreme Court found that the database did not meet creativit

From what I gather, the Craigslist T&Cs specifically forbid scraping data off their website. They explicitly call out the fact that they do not own the actual data/listings/facts on their website, so those are public domain (or possibly

After my initial switch from a single to dual monitors, I couldn't imagine ever going back to just one. Let alone a tiny laptop display. Shocked at how many single-laptop-and-not-much-else setups I saw in the examples given.
