I don't know if the Firefox Error Console handles it (it detects CSS and JS errors fairly well) but the Web Developer toolbar has a shortcut to validate the current page.

I don't experience slow-downs as frequently with HN as I used to, so I can't quite agree with it being faster. Also while it is definitely quick (as it's static HTML) it could also get out-of-date, HNs low score threshold for front-page ite

Twitter's very much like MySpace in the "follow everyone" mindset. Realistically anyone with more than 100 following is either reciprocating every follow they get or just being unscrupulous in who they follow. Either way there's no way that

If you're changing the style by CSS (as you should be) then really the content shouldn't be affected, unless you're changing the actual structure. I've never really seen the point in PR tbh, as far as I know it isn't much representation of

I think Twitter has much more value as a conversational tool and to some extent (thanks to services such as TwitterFeed) an RSS reader replacement (social feeds if you will). I've tried using it as a "microblogging" tool, and to be frank it

Possibly like the average Twitter user then? :) I guess a better line would be "If a page isn't linked to, does it have any significance?". That makes me wonder how many orphaned pages there are on the web. I guess it's uncalculable (within

To be fair, a good proportion of those comments were complaining about "+1" comments left on the issue. To an extent where there were more complaints than +1's.

The live app ( http://chartbeat.com/dashboard/?url=coverhunt.com&k=2ec3... ) is really quite impressive. As far as maintainability goes the page load timer looks very useful.

While the comment that many PHP applications depend on a MySQL database (I'd seriously expect WP to have some sort of DAL by now) is true it wouldn't be impossible for someone to write an extension to support Google's BigTable . Article was

You could always setup your own (the Arc source is available) - I have a feeling branching out like reddit could dilate the quality here (not that there's that much wrong with reddit (in comparison to places like digg), but it's just differ

I'm no security guru but with a little sensibility on the website itself could lessen the security risk from dictionary attacks. If you allow 3 login attempts before requiring a captcha, or set a maximum number of attempts per hour, giving

I think so. I have a concept I'm working on that's more a request forum than a Q&A board but I'm borrowing a few things StackOverflow has implemented well (nothing unique - mainly the simple wiki revisions). Something else to consider a

My feelings are that those who want to read Codinghorror already subscribe to the feed (I'm one of them) - so there should really be no need to pos tthem at all. For me HN is still the place to find things from palces I'm unaware of.

I'm interested to how cardboard can support a person (there are what appears to be cardboard steps in there). Is there something special (like some pyramids) going on inside the step? That cardboard table looks impressive though.

I'm fine with adverts on any website, as long as they aren't intrusive or damaging to the flow of the content. I use AdBlock plus but specifically disable it for sites that I know use adverts responsibly. I wouldn't be afraid to add one or
