This is the only thing that has me curious if that's how the progress curve feels like in the opening act of the Singularity.

You certainly have a point there, but I also remember being absolutely wrong about the Minecraft aquisition which has now paid for itself multiple times. Your math doesn't have to work out, even if it's solid.

Would you say that about any other type of media/culture/art you dislike? "I don't get why people like the Mona Lisa, the painting is neither original nor particularly well done" Is just as much a subjective stateme

I know I do and the amount of engineers in my circle that do is sharply increasing in the last couple of years.

Yes, but not a very deep problem in my case since I can order Remote Hands for this very niche scenario. A reboot doesn't let it loose power and that's all this is going to see for the forseeable future.

I just bought this the other day to setup a VPN to guard the IPMI interface in a 2U server I could cheaply house in some otherwise unmanaged rackspace. It's a pretty nifty piece of kit, but I still have to get better at understanding R

What I do not understand is the mechanism people are referring to here. What political action was taken, which party voted? The entire western world shares the same problem, you'd think there would be exceptions if it was just politics

I'm thinking in the same way, just would love a slimmed down domestic version. The inefficiency of garbage trucks hauling waste around should easily cover the cost of energy for both gasification and the reduction of pollution to accep

From my experience what you are experiencing is a case of "the current architectural best practices disagree with what we are doing successfully" which many organizations and Senior Engineers interpret as reason enough to introduc

It's only my opinion, but a fair tax scheme only collects taxes at the time where you have actually made gains to pay the taxes from, not any theoretical on-paper gains. To ensure the "fair" tax is levied i'd propose a l

The problem is, once again, not with being taxed in general, but with being forced to choose between staying in a country or being bankrupted by taxes. Yes, other countries do have Exit Taxes, but Germany is pretty unique in the way it calc

IANAL nor am I a Tax Advisor, but from my understanding transferring the shares for a value for obviously less than the fair market value would come under scrutiny because the tax authority could interpret this as a way of evading income ta

I've just described a very simple case, it could be much more nuanced and just as problematic. Let's say you were one of the founding members of a startup in your 20s, you join and get 20%. After 3 years of not seeing much success

What most people do not understand about muhaaa's comment is the dry-income problem. How to bankrupt yourself in 3 easy steps: 1. Incorporate a UG (small limited liablity entity, sometimes called baby GmbH) with 100€ capital base and y

Having spoken to a bunch of people that either have just left Google or still work there, practically all of them think this was not so much a leak as a placed bit of news to support them in potential future anti-trust cases.
