A lot of the PhD requirements actually comes from the grants and R&D tax benefits these guys are after. For a lot of those you have to justify you have the right workforce.

It focused on arxiv because you need a large set of labelled data (i.e. long documents with summaries). There is not many datasets of that kind out there.

Not that extreme. Interviews are meant to ensure candidates aren't lying on their resumes, but nothing is done to ensure companies aren't lying too.

Seems like a much smarter approach would be to make it seems like you have different personas, but behind the scenes you can tie them together.

They just realized it’s not that much more expensive to give these jobs to foreign workers instead.

Sounds like it should be entirely commission based ? I don't think anyone sees an issue if you get a share of the amount you generated, but getting large salary without having achieved anything seems a bit unreasonable.

I totally see crossfit as filling that gap that churches and religion left behind.

I'm conflicted about this, on the one hand it's completely wrong, but on the other hand would a non-white person even want to work for them? In the end their own biases will cause them to fail.

But why would people move from linkedin to another platform? Most people that use it are not really concerned with privacy, so they'll need a better reason to switch.

I would agree. But the skeptic in me thinks that once this behaviour is mainstream enough, people will forget how outraging it is and just accept it.

In some ways, the state of the web is degenerating. Way too much tracking, everyone wants metrics on everything you do. And don't get me started on mobile ads.

It's just a question of income. You will inevitably spend your income somewhere, ads are just a way to influence where it's spent. On the other hand, if you have no money you can't really spend it.

Quora is garbage. It's full of self-proclaimed experts, who give the impression that their answers are more valuable than those found on other questions/answering sites.

Additional question, is there some sort of copyright on this list? Maybe someone can just pay and post it somewhere.

Keep in mind that it's easy to you because you're from that particular field. For a lot of people software development is still basically witchcraft.

The vast majority of people who move do it on july 1st. So much that when I moved in march everyone thought it was impossible.

Depends what jobs you're applying to. But I've seen it first hand traditional HR doesn't know how to filter for ML resumes.

True. I was assuming programing experience but no data structure and algorithms. I can attest that a lot of people in my ML class couldn't program and they sucked at the assignments we had.

You don't need much CS knowledge for deep learning, in fact pure math/stats is more useful. I'd say CS knowledge is only useful if you do RL stuff and even then you don't really need it that much.
