High levels of stress (often related to work) have been shown to impact health. So I think it’s a fair thing to oppose them.

Im surprised that owning a cafe and operating it is less stressful than doing dev work.

It always seemed like loosing bet to implement a startup purely on top of the OpenAI apis. If you do that you have zero moat.

We just hit 7.5% of our population being Temporary Foreign Workers. The government claims they want to bring that back down to 5%, but even that seems too high.

It’s hard not to see this as a bubble at this point. LLMs are useful, but are they bringing trillions in added value to our economy?

Anyone familiar with Brain computer interfaces would not be surprised by this article. People have been capturing brain waves for a while and using it for all sorts of experiments. This is just an extension of what has been done before. It’

These are also wet electrodes meaning you need to apply gel to every single one. You’ll notice that the person wearing it is also not blinking or using any facial muscles, as that activity would completely throw off the very weak brain sign

Not saying I agree with the theory, but if D’Angelo was any but manipulative he would obviously lie and convince them using other reasons. For instance he could claim that he’s worried about alignment, safety, etc.

There's already a book being written (see The Atlantic article), so at this point I would assume a movie will be made.

Realistically, regular employees have little to gain by staying at Open AI at this point. They would be taking a huge gamble, earn less money, and lose a lot of colleagues.

That’s a hypothesis. It may not be true, as we have yet to build AGI

Maybe but we also don’t know what AGI requires.

Yeah none of them ever did, and that was always very obvious. If you can make it by wrapping a few API calls, you have no moat and anyone can steal your idea/customers.

Just the fact that they decided to stay with what is essentially a highly technical acronym i.e. GPT, as their major product line says a lot.

Its an awful policy, and in the long run will harm Canadians more than anything.

Keep in mind the COL in Canada is often higher too. So its pay cut + higher COL. Most Canadians can't afford to buy homes.

I wonder how remote works factors into this. I know a few Canadians with US jobs that stayed here because the corporate policy now allows them to work remotely.

This seems like a better approach. Introducing another unrelated model seems like it would just add an extra point of failure to watch out for.

I think a lot of the time the bulk added is in sales and marketing, to capture the most of a 'wave' when it shows up. The penalty for over hiring remains less than for under hiring in these cases.

This is what happens when you optimize for a certain metric only. Yeah you might have someone's who's writing tons of high quality code, but if this code is just a duplication of another project or there is no business use for it,
