I don't think I've ever met anyone from Iowa. Most people on this site are probably from the coasts. So I would consider it an example of diversity.

Again, small town Iowa is very different from elsewhere in the country. It's not what you would expect on a site focused on tech where most probably hail from coastal urban or suburban enclaves. Of course if you refuse to believe anyon

I'd imagine life experience for people living in small town Iowa is very different from that of people living in major urban centers on the coasts. You're assuming that if someone is white and not rich or below the poverty line th

Small town Iowa is probably not very well represented on most internet forums, so the commenter was happy to see that it was being referenced... That's all. Not sure where your negativity is coming from

Many grad schools publish post graduation job and salary prospects, so I'd start with that. Many also publish average GPA/GRE scores, so look at those to get an idea of where you stand. Because the job market is being saturated wi

It doesn't seem like that big of a deal in the grand scheme of things, more an indictment based on shady personal business dealings rather than some serious political conspiracy.

Great interview and a fresh perspective. Life, as in the totality of species on Earth, is incredibly resilient. As much as we impact the environment, as long as the Earth remains hospitable to us it will remain hospitable to a huge number o

Of course they're capable. That's apparent. But a strong capital base does not fall into a nation's lap simply because its people are capable. The Chinese had very little capital, then over the course of the 80's built i

That was not always the case. The government used to be much friendlier and accommodating towards foreign business. In order to kickstart their Renaissance, the Chinese almost entirely relied on foreign capital. You make the claim that bec

So you're saying that no lay person can share interesting facts during casual conversation? You must be an expert on something to casually talk about it at lunch? Nonsense. This is one of the sillier things I've ever read on HN.

I'm not sure why you would call that statement racist. Poverty tends to beget crime, this is very hard to deny. Because the black community - as a result of the slavery of its ancestors in this country - suffers disproportionately high
