The benefit of the bank account is that you get interest on what you have saved. You only get cash back from a credit card on what you've spent.

Here's a big one: illegal immigration. 1. The US-Mexico border wall. The purpose of the wall is to prevent people from illegally crossing the border to enter the US. Say what you will about its effectiveness. I doubt it would be that e

Did anything become of the complaint filed by HUD against Facebook for race discriminated housing ads?

I mostly agree. We should be hand counting all ballots. But also incorporating a counting machine could help improve reliability similarly to a checksum. If the hard counted and machine results are not identical, then recount because there

If this is some pun or joke, I don't get it. I assure you a place can be both cold and windy simultaneously, and this is not exclusive to Chicago.

Have you lived in Chicago during the winter? It gets quite cold and windy. I couldn't imagine willingly commuting there on bike even if adequate infrastructure existed.

I took AP Computer Science online in high school as well but in MI in '07. It wasn't nearly as bad as your experiece, and it was an actual easy A (I had prior C++ experience). Granted, it should have been named AP Java Programming

For those who drive, certainly. Road tolls in my experience have been either a flat fee (e.g., the ones around Chicago, IL) or by distance traveled (e.g., the Ohio Turnpike). This is effectively a flat tax rate, not a progressive rate. Thus

The problem with tolls, and gas taxes and vehicle registrations for that matter, is that they disproportionally affect the poor. I, and many on HN might not give the marginal cost second thought, but for many it adds up.

I just found that same page. The heading to that section is: > Sec. 804. [42 U.S.C. 3604] Discrimination in sale or rental of housing and other prohibited practices

Cheaper medical school tuition isn't going to lead to more doctors. The limiting factor is the number of available seats and residency positions, not the cost.

No, I'd rather say "gear" than "pawn". If I can be well compensated to do what I enjoy doing, why not? But then again I'm satisfied with my employment.

True, but it's very possible for someone who's not technically Christian to be more "Christian". Not the theological aspect but the whole behavior part: "love thy neighbor", and not throwing out charitable work

English does have double negatives, and they're grammatically correct when used properly. They simply cancel each other out which differs from Spanish where they add emphasis.

I thought with use taxes you owed the remaining difference in tax. Say I purchase a $100 widget in Kenosha, WI with a sales tax of 5.5%, and I live in MI with a sales and use tax of 6%. I would owe MI the 0.5% difference on the $100 which w
