My favorite movie UIs are in Alien (mother's terminal) and the interface in Tron Legacy to Encom OS[1]. http://jtnimoy.com/blogs/projects/14881671-tron-legacy

Although my favorite free Unix-like is NetBSD, I have a great deal of admiration for what Debian does and how it does it. To me, it is one of the best Linux distibutions, along with Slackware and Arch.

It's computer fascism and people are stupid enough to sign up for it.

I totally agree with you. I am as likely to buy this as I am to buy a router made by Facebook.

I suspect most of this is about unemployment insurance and being able to deny a fired employee insured benefits.

It must be so nice for AT&T; making money twice on the same customer.

Personally, I wish everyone used the 24:00 clock. Maybe the military has messed me up, but I really prefer seeing something like 18:22 over 6:22pm. It just seems simplier.

This is why I always bought a full copy of Windows; because having to install the previous version in order to install the current version is bullshit.

I think it is worst. As least with XP, you didn't have Dell preventing you from getting a security update.

IMO, the Android echosystem is a clusterfuck and Google needs to get a hold of it. I would buy a Windows phone before I would buy an Android device.

The default setting should be to respect the privacy of the user first. Since they know most users will blindly go with the default, it's an asshole play.

Why didn't a single one of these hit the front? Is someone messing with them? I only found out about this because other sites were reporting it.

I honestly don't understand why the stock price would increase with this. It seems to me that all they did was add a layer of bureaucracy (or just shuffled it around).

That's fucking crazy. But I would love to see examples of how OS X, iOS, Android, and ChromeOS compares.

Which is why being open source is not enough. It needs to be non-commercial.

iOS does tell you have to turn it off but the user has to notice a small notice on the Spotlight control panel. Same with OS X. I believe this kind is unethical as Apple knows that most people won't change the default settings.

Apple, Microsoft, and Google are on the road to destroying computing autonomy. I have been an OS geek since 1992 and I have never felt so disgusted with the commercial OS market.

This is why I am finally in the process of moving a commercial operating system to a free unix-like operating system: 1. No onerous licensing terms. 2. No autoupdating background proceses. 3. No built-in search tools that leak data. 4. No o

NoScript is a great extension. Even if you never used it to block anything, it is a real eye-opener on just how much stuff is being loaded when you visit a website.

I was under the impression that DVD playback was removed back when Windows 8 came out. If so, why is this just getting noticed now?

The judge ruled it unconstitutional. I don't believe that even the TPP can override such a ruling (assuming it is not ultimately overturned by a higher court).

What they should do is require all DCMA notices to be submitted via a webform that has to pass a CAPTCHA. As far as I know, there is nothing that requires Google to accept automated DCMA notices from the MPAA.

I don't think anyone has a problem with this being the default, because novices need it, but I think people should have the option to turn it off.

Given the lack of enthusiasm that Windows generates, I don't think it ever had "Mojo". But it has market share, which is probably more important.

This will fail. If we want freedom from tracking, we will have to take it; they are not going to give it to us.
