Domain hacks are funny but counterproductive and problematic in the long run. Domain hacks involving digits are a marketing problem squared. See the reasoning behind the switch from del.icio.us to Delicious.com: So why did we switch to del

Read my short guide to a good domain elsewhere on HN and for your own sake avoid domains with digits. http://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=1659674

Eating in McDonalds is like using TXT files to mimic a database. No matter how much ketchup you throw at it, it will make you sick and sorry.

Don't believe them. Check their story. If it fits, give them a low-cost ticket to Romania where they have their natural safety net (family and friends).

Will the wave of users coming from Digg be useful participants? Will there be any paid gaming of Reddit? Will Reddit turn into a sewer as it grows, as did Digg?

Let's not forget, Bill Gates was handed a 0th birthday gift of $1 million from his grandfather, the keys to his private middle school computer (the same one Stanford had), and a free ticket to do business with IBM because his mother alread

Not considering MMOs, those other examples sound more like a nuisance (DRM) than an extra service.

Maybe a more proper question: How is Twitter going to make money, as in "earn cash"?

What he describes can be summed up as "Don't sell games, sell services". And I wholeheartedly agree. Games-as-a-service in the future?

We need more people like him, just to remind us of the absurdities we pretend or choose not to see every day. Is The Exile online somewhere, at least partially?

Honest question: Why does this article resonate so much and has over 200 upvotes as of now? Is this really such a wide-spread phenomenon? Can't one detect such behaviour very fast and get out of the rollercoaster before any damage is done?

Seriously, who buys something like this? Even as a joke it's weak and drags on for at least a month. I can imagine it's not funny anymore after several days. Like canned laughter.

14K for a design and 5K for the initial legal work seems pretty steep to me for a completely new, unproven web. Surely it could have been done an order of magnitude cheaper for similar quality, no? Anyway I'm glad he shared the data.

I can heartily recommend the book The Strategy and Tactics of Pricing http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/0136106811/ It's pretty expensive as far as books go, but very much worth it. It not only explains how to set a price, but also how to

Writing a web app is doing. Writing a blog post about writing a web app is talking. I don't know J.D and I don't know the blog. If he makes money off of talking about doing, good for him.

I think it's understood that by these rules you ensure the minimal time spent with the important people. Neither the 4 minutes a day, nor the 1 week a quarter are adequate, they just build the low threshhold in stressful times.
