Kudos to the Gruaniad for stopping the BBC hanging itself. I think they should be allowed a small gloat off the back of this.

Chaos and entropy always get into mechanism, but if we don't even try to get it right at the begining then the system might not even make it to prod.

Good point. Well spotted. If we are all quibbling over the wording used in a hypothetical case, then I wonder what's going to happen when the lawyers get going with the real one.

One technique is to ask for 3 point estimates. Get everyone involved to estimate each item in three different ways: 1. How long it will take if everything goes well and according to plan. 2. How long it will take if everything goes wrong a

From what I understand, a construction "blue book" would give work rates for common tasks. How long it takes one man to dig a trench 10 yards long, or lay a 1000 bricks. From this you could calculate how long the entire job woul

Perhaps I have lived too long out in the provences, but Maven was my first experience of dependency management in Java. After Ant it was a no-brainer because Ant didn't do dependencies. I didn't come across references to Ivy for

You are right. My minimal research was inadequate. There are some shonky kits on EBay for £53 that don't include the battery. At least one on Amazon for £80, but looking more carefully its probably looking more like £350 to £400.

Conversion kits start at around £150 and can be fitted to that £50 bike. The biggest issue I see for higher priced bikes is secure parking (as mentioned in the article). No one provides secure/supervised parking and its tricky to get

In some places standups work, in others they don't, and it can change overtime as people move in and out of the team. Standups don't work when the team isn't getting anything out of them. Perhaps we all know what's goin

The URL identifies an entity. In the old static website days this meant a file - a html file or an image on a file system. With REST, the idea was to create a virtual filesystem and take advantage of the HTTP infrastructure already in plac

I'd say the adoption of HTTP protocols was certainly driven by firewalls. This was just as true for SOAP as it was REST. However, in earlier times caching was also important, and this is one of the places where REST beat SOAP. Howev
