The poor spelling probably increases the conversion rate from people who make the first reply. The nigerian prince and poor-spelling spammers are dead giveaways to a spam. If you filter out people who know about these cliches, you increase

Just check out `:help index` when you get bored, scroll some random amount down, and use a new thing or two that day.

I guess I just view things from a different perspective, not having the disposable income of the average HNer (where 2200 is a "rounding error", as seen in this thread)

My work MBP is fast enough for what I do. I don't need 16gig 2133 DDR3, or an i7. My problem, though, is that you're paying PC i7 level price for an i3/5, for example.

Could you share some? I use a MBP at work, and if I'm not "doing it right", I'd like to know how I can get the most out of my machine.

It seems a good portion of the HN crowd is obsessed with spending more money than necessary. I totally get the "Put money into things that matter" idea, but overpaying for outdated specs is not some honorable trait.

American football can be viewed as a chess match between the opposing coaches, with the players having the job of executing the coaches' strategies as perfectly as possible. Each play, both on offense and defense, is designed and planned. H

Some modern shoot-em-ups in the arcade have blatantly unfair portions of the game where you WILL get hit and lose a life. See CarnEvil for an example. I would consider these similar to IAP. Older arcade games like Galaga and Super Mario Bro

Apparently the parameter w=1 fixes the white space for the diff in the browser. Is there a way to make the pull request reference that?

Completely forgivable. This pull request[0], on the other hand, is probably more along the lines of what mirsadm was thinking of. [0]: https://github.com/Aaronius/Stupid-Table-Plugin/commit/fbf3d...

Ah, but that is one alternative! Now you'll have to excuse me, I'm off to buy a new MBP with the specs of the standard PC laptops of a few years ago for double the price, acting as a rational consumer.

I'd actually assert a portion of people buy Apple products out of goodwill to Apple. This should not be taken as a compliment, though.

Would you also happen to be a fast reader? I can't seem to break the 120 barrier, and I'm wondering if the habit of mentally "saying" the words as I read them is a significant reason why I can't improve.

This serves as a great reminder that a good portion of your speed comes from accuracy. I find if I slow myself down ~10% of what feels "fast", I'm much more accurate and my WPM increase significantly over typing faster but backspacing more.

I don't use anything beyond 5(with the exception of 0 because that's fairly easy for me to hit). 6 and 7 are the hardest to hit. 17k for me just becomes 15kkk, for example. If you ever find yourself needing to go 50+ up or down, you should

I had tried scrolloff=1000 for middle scrolling. I liked it for a while, but got a little tired of the jumpy-ness. I'll give 5 a go.

I believe many VIM users overestimate the importance of using h,j,k,l in comparison to numeric modifiers. Holding down j to scroll down the page is no more "right" than holding down the down arrow, in my opinion. The following made me consi
