I've often seen academics abbreviate their (highly uncommon) jargon in their papers and, short of a very firm length requirement, I don't understand why. My brain has to stop and parse it out every time I see it if the acronym isn

I just played and failed, only to get "Sorry, the word was GIBBY" with a link to the "definition" of GIBBY[1] on dictionary.com. Spoiler alert: according to dictionary.com, GIBBY isn't a word. [1]: https:/

> Still a black box. Unless everything is open—open language, open interpreter, open compiler—then it’s not open. Then literally nothing is open because no one is doing any significant computing on a fully-open hardware stack.

Is this really an argument, though? Certainly for any communication style X, some people will struggle with X. Even then, if, for example, speaking demonstrably had far fewer "strugglers", does that automatically make it preferabl

I think the "some reason" is fairly obvious: if you don't move fast in a competitive area (i.e. where the money is), someone else will and they'll eat your lunch.

There's also something to be said for automated "road trains". There are enormous aerodynamic benefits if 20 or 30 (autonomous) vehicles can communicate and link up with each other to drive at exactly the same speed.

I guess things are a spectrum. I've worked on research projects where understanding and developing the algorithm is the research. There isn't really an "input data set" other than a handful of parameters that are really

I suspect the Eric Wastl (AoC developer) wants this project to remain solely his and this is mostly a polite way to wave away all contributions in one go. I believe he has said he has way more problem ideas than time to implement them as-

"A vector is a thing with both magnitude and direction" isn't really a good definition. Cars have both -- an SUV is larger than a sedan, establishing a magnitude, and they obviously point in a direction -- but I don't th

It can be said that everything is traveling through spacetime "at c (the speed of light)". The math works out such that the faster you move through space, the slower you move through time and vice versa.
